17  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / Re: YARN DYEING 101 - KOOL AID on: March 09, 2005 04:25:31 PM
I can't tell you about cotton but supposedly any natural fiber will work with koolaid...and since my sister felted the bag she made me it definitely stays in after being washed!!

the more koolaid you use the darker/brighter the color will be, basically just leave the yarn in the water until the water is clear...

the yellow was lemonade...the pink was pink lemonade...orange=orange...the green was one of those mystery colors i can't remember what it was called...basically we mixed the koolaid up with water first if we were unusre of the colors...it's a lot of fun definitely give it a try even if you only do it once!

20  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / Re: YARN DYEING 101 - KOOL AID on: March 08, 2005 06:36:49 AM
my sisters and I did this in the fall and it's a lot of fun to do....we're all in our 20's and I felt like a little kid doing it because we couldn't wait to see what the colors turned out to be like....I think we tried just about every color kool aid we could find  Grin

we used lionbrand wool at the time because my sister was big into felted bags, she ended up making my other sister and I felted bags with the koolaid yarn....we  were a little unsure if the process would prevent it from felting but it didnt....here's a picture of the bag she made me. I absolutely love it!!
