2  COOKING / Dessert / Bahamut Dungeons and Dragons cake! on: January 04, 2011 10:13:42 AM

Alright, for my first post I think I'll put something I decorated a few months back. I only have a few crappy iPhone pics that my buddy took, and they do not do this thing justice!

First off- the entire thing is a 12 inch layer buttermilk cake with raspberry compote filling, (thing ended up weighing at least 10lbs) and this baby is rendered entirely in buttercreme frosting...

exceptin' them tiny 1.5 inch-round hand-painted fondant circles on the sides that show the emblems of some of the other gods in D&D (this one is Nerull, but I also put in Tiamat, Wee Jas, and about 4 others)

Whatcha think, my wonderful nerdlings?
3  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Cookies + Faces = Best Band Merch Ever? on: January 04, 2011 10:13:20 AM
Holy crap, I did that for my friend's band recently! I highly recommend making sugar cookies, or a plain chocolate dough, because they are easy to make and decorate- but mostly because they're some of the most popular cookie flavors. Snickerdoodles would be another good choice if you wanted to do a stencil (like Jesus!) and dust cinnamon/powdered sugar/cocoa on top. I made sugar cookies and just put a smattering of royal icing on top so I could paint the cookies directly with food coloring.

hope that helps you get started  Grin
4  COOKING / Dessert / Re: One woman's quest to save the spice cookie on: January 04, 2011 10:01:10 AM
I always get disappointed when I bite into a spice cookie and they are too thin and crispy like gingersnaps, so I am ALL OVER THIS RECIPE!

Cutting out cakes like that is such a pain, but it turned out so well I think it was worth your effort! Great job! (And the kiwi fruit was such a sweet touch)
