4  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Mammoth Hot Springs Scarf on: May 14, 2012 10:33:01 AM
I've wanted to do some sort of felt/fiber tribute to amazing places I've been in my life. Mammoth Hot Springs is this incredibly dynamic geological wonder, and I HAD to make something.

I special ordered a batt with natural white and fawn suri alpaca, dyed merino wool, and firestar for some sparkle.

Gorgeous landscape:

I AM SO HAPPY how it turned out!!!!!! It is SO soft~ I can't wait to choose another place.

I also made 2 skeins of yarn from these batts over in the yarn section.

You can read more about the process (it's really a tutorial) at http://pearhugstudio.blogspot.com/2012/05/mammoth-hot-springs-felted-scarf.html

I felted most everything together along with the base and then needle felted in the details.

If you want to do this with kids, the ziplock bag method is fantastic. You have them build a little square and do the design on the top layer, put some warm, soapy water in a ziplock, seal it, and have them rub it. Easy peasy!

I am so excited about this piece.

I used both undyed and hand dyed Merino top, hand dyed Lincoln locks, cotswold/suffolk cross locks, and wensleydale/coopworth lamb locks, and some firestar for sparkle.

It is both wet felted and needle felted for detail and measures approx. 8.5 in. x 7.5 in.

I would LOVE to get some feedback. We have a fiber fest coming up and I'd like to submit this in a category! I've never put a piece in anything before, so I am stoked.

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I think they do reduce drying time. They also make GREAT toys for my girls!
