I was commissioned just before Christmas to make a dachshund figure for someone. I didn't get him done quite in time, be he went to his new home last week. 

I am mostly happy with how he turned out.  Of course I can see where to improve next time, but it has been a fun learning curve, especially looking at anatomy that isn't a rat! (I have really only done rat sculptures!).  I'd like to have just redone the legs altogether though! 

I was commissioned to make these little mini rats holding the food stuffs they were named after.  I had fun making the food, but I won't be rushing to do anything similar! I wish I'd done a little bite out of the gingerbread man too, but they went out in the post earlier today.  The one on the right is holding a flapjack (I know it looks like a Weetabix!  )

A few pics of my latest WIP rat sculpt.  I'm hoping his small head will look bigger once painted :S

I normally make shrinky jewellery on a smaller scale, but after receiving a commission for a larger piece I thought 'why not give it a shot!'  It's in the mail as I type, and I'm a little worried about what the customer will think, because the noses really annoy me and the perspective of the black rat is all off (big hands!)  Anyway, I'm really inspired to make some similar style items and I hope what I've learned with this will help me for the next ones

Finally finished my second rat today! Phew what a meal I've managed to make of this.    But she's done now...finally!  There are a few bits I'm not happy with, but all in all I'm satisfied with her.  Polymer clay, painted with acrylics.

I agreed to make a custom rat sculpture for someone who saw a previous work of mine.  I am about to start painting it, but realised that I had no idea on how to post it!

I'm partially talking about how to wrap and pack it, but also on what service to use.  I am in the UK and the mail service here (bless them) are not renown for treating things well and I've had two smaller pieces break this week in transit alone (my fault for posting in bubble mailers rather than boxes I guess!).

Has anyone else successfully posted polymer clay items safely if they have been more delicate items? I commissioned a small piece 5-6 years ago which had a few delicate areas which arrived from Australia just fine, but it was a much smaller, lighter item and I cannot remember at all how it was packed!

I finished my first rat figure for a friend last week.  I am a bit annoyed by the anatomy flaws, but it's my first rat and my 2nd go at something of this size (5 1/2 inches approx. tall) with polymer clay.  I used Super Sculpey and I have to admit, I do love it a little bit      I'd really like to have a lot more practice at painting polymer clay pieces; but it's been fun having a go regardless.

He's a fair bit redder in real life.  I note he is very 'lanky' looking, so my friend said paint him as a juvenile and it will look intentional! Does any one know of any good resources for painting polymer clay models?
