1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Can I brag...just a little? on: May 31, 2013 01:54:09 AM
Ever done something that you thought was super difficult and then succeeded far beyond your wildest expectations? That's how I felt after I completed these costumes.

I am woman with many hats! I am a dance teacher, choreographer, costume designer/coordinator (and much, much more). It started with my own classes that I teach when I could never find what I envisioned and so I started making the costumes for just the classes I taught. It has exploded into complete control of all the costumes for the entire studio.

These flapper costumes are some that I am very proud of . The song was "Thoroughly Modern Millie". I ended up with an award for these costumes.

Although no two are alike, I tried to keep the palette cohesive. In the photo, you can't tell that the dress with white fringe actually has a base dress of bright Arabian blue. I'll try to get more pictures later and possibly a little closer up.

It's funny how this color palette came about. Originally I only wanted the dark, brighter blue with black, but for some reason, the seller of the fringe raised that price by double and I couldn't get enough. I tried matching it (that was a disaster) and ended up with complimentary colors instead. I ran out of fabric for one dress and grabbed a piece of black velveteen that I had. by carefully piecing it together, I came up with a two-tone dress.

I didn't have a pattern so I was flying blind and making it up as I went. I added the black fringe to the bottom and then one row of the blue at the top.

Then I finished the whole "skirt" with black fringe and silver hologram sequins.
