This was an old dress of my Mom's, that I discovered in her closet (no! I would never dig through other people's closets to find something I could refashion! this was only by accident! ). She hadn't worn it in years and actually was on the verge of throwing it away.
It is made of a wonderfully light fabric and I actually liked the floral print. So I decided to save it and try to give it a new life.
And this is what I came up with:
(this cute tie thing in the back had already been there)
Here's a close up of the gathered sleeves/straps:
And this is what it looked like before (sorry for the mess in the background):
It was really weirdly fitted: too wide around the waist and belly and to tight around my hips.
So, I chopped off quite a bit of the length. Then I ripped the side seams open from the (new) hem up to the waist and sewed in a long triangle on each side, which I had cut out from the chopped off bottom fabric. This made the skirt part wider and created more like an A-shape. Then I cut off the sleeves and gathered the fabric between the neckline and the armholes.
As I'm as white as a sheet most of the year, I'm thinking of dying it a new color to make it a bit more flattering. But I'm not sure of how the print would turn out. Or maybe i should just try to get a good tan .
What do you think?
