I'm making a series of Disney inspired necklaces for all my friends, and I found these adorable ideas on etsy using "handblown glass orbs" with little items in there (snow globes, seeds, beads, etc!) however I'm having a ridiculously hard time finding any, and even any information on how to put the items in there!
So first step/question - where can I find these little guys? I'd prefer the ones where you can put bead caps on both ends of the bead. Second question - I don't see any large holes in the pictures I've found, where do I fill the glass "orbs" with the item of my choice? Thanks!!
So I've been lurking on soap sites for what feels like forever now, I've been scanning recipes and reading up on tutorials, checking out suppliers, read the getting started threat etc but I still feel like I'm in the dark about a few things!
My ultimate plan is to maybe sell some soaps at my gym. I train at a mixed martial arts gym, and I was kind of inspired by Defense Soap - a soap company thats kind of aimed towards fighters, especially since hygiene is extremely important - gotta avoid MRSA and staph infections, yuck! BUT - their scents are limited, and as a girl I'd love to have some variety in soaps, and I'm sure the guys would buy into it!
Here's my little problems/questions
1. Cold process or melt and pour? -I'm semi-impatient and I'd like to see my end product - especially since curing takes awhile from what I've read and I don't want to wait 4-6 weeks to have a million messed up batches until I get it right. But - can I still add things melt and pour soaps to make them really nice? Like - should I just buy a shea butter M&P base, or can I add shea butter to another base?
2. For those of you that sell, how long did you practice making soaps before you got it perfect and felt like it was ready to be sold? I don't want to do a half-job and not be 200% ready! I want something simple, looks nice, smells great and makes you clean!
Sorry, I wasn't entirely sure what part of the board to post this in, but is there a way to remove the glaze on polymer clay? More specifically....my lid wasn't screwed on right and I spilled it on my husbands car seat! Now, he's out of town for a bit but I need to get it off right away. It's hardened and dried up, and I chipped some of the thicker pieces off but it's on cloth/suede and I don't want to mess the seats up.
Is there any chemical that will break it down? Nail polish remover? Paint thinner? Hopefully without removing the seat. Thanks!!
Hey! :] I couldn't quite figure out what to type in the search, so I hope this hasn't been asked before or I hope I didn't miss it and feel silly for asking a repetitive question.. But I'm still dabbling in polymer and I love it so far! I keep trying new things every day, but now I want to try adding things into the polymer - specifically, beads that look like pearls. I believe the beads I have are glass, but do you add things into the clay before or after? Will it explode in the oven or melt? I'm trying to wrap the clay around the beads so I'm not entirely sure it'll work well if I add them after. The pieces are small so I won't be baking them very long, but I'm still leery of destroying the oven haha.
Also, a little off topic, has anyone had trouble with silver sculpey and baking? I've tried tenting it, but it always gets terribly discolored and gets brown streaks. It's worked out ok in my steam punk pieces but I'd still like for my silver pieces to be silver. My whites turn out white, so I don't know if its the oven or not. Thanks!
I'm Chelsea and I used to be a huge lurker and occasional poster here a few years ago and I kind of took a break from crafting (or what my 16-17 year attempted to craft..I'm too embarrassed to even search for my old stuff on here!) but now I'm 23, married and facing a long year away from my husband as he deploys to Iraq, so I plan on keeping myself very busy with lots of crafting! I forgot my old username and login info, plus I'm sure it was kind of silly anyways, so I'm starting over! I'm currently in Ohio, and I noticed there's quite a few Ohioans here so hi! I can't believe how huge this place has grown, and I'm overwhelmed and excited to be back!
I haven't been on craftster in YEARS and I decided to register again since I forgot my old login information. But anyways! I decided to make little "Create your Own" nail polish kits for the girls in my family (ages 8 to 16!) and so far I have everything I need, pigments, little cute funnels, labels, but..I can't find clear nail polish in bulk! I figured I'd give each person maybe 5 bottles of clear nail polish, or a bunch of smaller ones, so either works. I googled around and can't find a recipe for making my own clear nail polish, and I'm wondering if I have to buy a bunch from the drugstore and just peel the labels off, which I'd rather not do. Does anyone know where I can find some, make some or anything of that sort?
