so, last night in drawing 1 we had to draw the figure. it was very awkward at first, but after a while you get used to it....... until your professor puts you dead on with her genitals because 'you can do foreshortening' this may be true, but that awkward feeling came back with a million times worse!
anyways, i got over it and our model, wendy, really liked my drawing so..life goes on :]
safe thumbnail! ((sorry about that i didn't even think of it because i've been on craftster so long without the thumbnails!))
((Rest in peace pretty kitty <333))
although now that i look at it again, her left arm (on the right side of the picture) looks a little funny. but i avoided that part until we had 1 minute left because unclenched hands intimidate me
also, it's probably good to know that our professor didn't tell us to use pencil. all but me used vine charcoal. however, i like to challenge my professor. last half of the semester, we had to draw a drapery piece for our midterm drawing...i did it, not only in pencil, but in squiggles. i'll post it later.. the whole time she was like "hmm, you may just prove me wrong. drapery CAN be done in pencil by a drawing 1 student..in squiggles no less!" :p
as with my macro entry here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=241879.0 (shameless plug) the intention of my mini-macro-photoshoot was to make me think i'm pretty. because more often than not, i feel like i'm not pretty. that's no way to live. so, ta-da! my nose.
p.s. only photoshopping was to piece the two photos together.
anyways, the focus is my big honkin' nose that everyone always tells me they love. but i dislike it more often than not, so my attempt at my mini-macro-photoshoot was to make myself more appealing to myself. and in this photo, i do quite like the way i look even with my huge (is it crooked too?! dang) nose. i also really like (wow, i'm complimenting myself...unusual and quite silly too) how the lighting makes a circle on my nose. :] its endearing. as are the big bags under my eyes (so says the boy.) from my 14 hour school day.
anyways, enjoy. and good luck to all your macro-ness as well.
HOLY MOLY. I CANNOT STOP MODIFYING THIS POST. anyways, no photoshop here.
edit: so i tried to pull this off as a challenge entry, but only one photo per entry, no collages. so i shall return with just ONE (SO hard to choose. but i must :]) thanks batgirl for letting me know!
okay, rambling, then pictures (an interesting one for the thumbnail then the 'official entry') i know that a lot of people have this problem: dermatillomania. also known as compulsive skin picking. but not a lot of us know that it is an actual "disease". For me, i pick my fingers (mostly my thumbs which is the focus of my photos..actually at the beginning of the semester i picked a chunk right out of my thumb!) as a soothing anxiety thing but other do it when they're bored or trying to smooth out rough spots. I don't even realize when i do it (although i have been working on being more aware of it) so it tends to get pretty far before i notice/stop. usually until i bleed, sometimes much longer after that. it's a big problem. i have my hands in my pockets 85% of the time (the rest is writing or picking) and i tend to avoid shaking hands or even holding hands with the boy i love because i'm afraid that the roughness of where i've picked will freak people out. hands are supposed to be smooth and soft, not ugly and rough. but, i decided to enter this challenge to help spread the word (i bet some of you craftsters do it too!) and to let people know it really is a problem i cannot stop. oh, and the only photoshopping i did was putting all my pictures on one big background. it's a macromposition. :] i couldn't choose one and i think this conveys my emotion better, hope thats okay!
*phew* now that you've had your reading of the day... thumbnail: (p.s. one of these days i will switch to the craftster photo hosting, but it is far too late for me to attempt tonight)
okay, let me start off with i have NO idea where to post this topic (interior decorating, more art? just misc?), so if it needs to be moved i'm all for it.
second of all, i rarely post my own projects on craftster..i'm bashful :}
thirdly, it's not really quilting or patchwork (but it looks like both to me). i just sewed and sewed and sewed fabric on top to make pretty flowers.
the darker one is for my mom's birthday, i'm still trying to find a frame. it's about 8x10"
detail :p i edited it so the picture in the new topics thumbnails would be more intriguing. haha
next to my itty bitty hand for reference
more detail (i love it when my camera cooperates)
with tha button
and the second button swirls off one petal
with the button, so cute. i sewed it on with blue thread so it really stands out.
okay, a question for you all...would you buy these? i would frame them of course but i searched etsy and couldn't find anything like them. how much could they sell for? poor college girl needs laundry monies haha.
so, last play i was Head Costume Girl (actually, only costume girl)..and I had to make someone headless. i managed to do that and now theatre is recruiting me for this play's costumes. well, that's not the whole story...the whole story is that i volunteered to HELP with costumes. Since we are doing two one-acts this time, Jes (Head Costume for the other one and my director from the play which i was head costume.....confused yet?) is Head Costuming the other play, Wiley [and the Hairy man, but for times sake..just wiley]. Now, I got into ensemble for Pipe Dream..Pipe Dream is going to a drama festival (BIG STUFF!) and the girl who said she would head costume for it isn't allowed to because she'll be in france during production week. So, the duty was passed on to me today. quite forcibly too. "Sooo...since melanie can't head costume for Pipe Dream, and i'm heading up Wiley...you should probably take charge of that"
ANYWAYS. on to what i need help with. I NEED AT LEAST TWELVE SUITS/TOPCOAT THINGS AND PROBABLY 15ISH BOWLER CAPS FOR THIS PLAY. problem: they all have to be identical. problem: my sewing team is very limited. problem: we don't have a big budget. problem: suits are hard to make. problem: 3 weeks...well, opening night is march 9th, but i need these by Feb. 20th (i think) so two and a half.
um..so i have a few questions to those who can answer them.. question: would it look okay to make them out of muslim (since it's super cheap) and dye them all black? question: i also would need a period dress. think charlie chaplin times...like early 1900s. any patterns you can point me in the direction of? question: if anyone is in the new england area.......can you help me? just come to John Stark Regional High School (google for directions, first one that comes up!) on Saturdays at 11 (usually 11-3 or 4..it's a work call where most peple work on set, but i work on costume...we usually feed you!)
RIGHT. and the play is about Rene Magritte's life. you can look his stuff up on google. he's really amazing. he has a hard time with words so...the famous one is a painting of a pipe and underneath it says "ceci nes't pas un pipe" meaning this is not a pipe. and a pipe dream is an impossible dream, and rene's father thinks his dream of becoming an artist is a pipe dream, so obviously he proves him wrong in real life... ok, that was just a 5 second background on the play.
my good friend walker dunn [owalkerojillo] is going to spain for FIVE MONTHS as an exchange student! / it's really good for her because she'll have so much fun and she's going to learn so much there. but i'll miss her. so i wanted to make her something before she leaves...
so, i was thinking maybe i could knit something like a scarf with the spanish colors or something. but i don't have the yarn for that right now, and i'd prefer working with things i already have. but are there any ideas? i can do a lot of crafts [especially with the great tutes on here.]
any ideas? wah. redundant.
also, keep in mind she's leavingggg...the 26th. well, the last day i'll see her is the 25th and her going away party is the 21st. maybe a journal? orrrrrrr a 'homesick' kit.
my colors: black, sea foam green, pink [the colors of my room].
i know i want a cotton or sturdy fabric because this is my first quilt so i want it to be easy BUT HOW MUCH DO I BUY? [assuming the width of the fabric is 50" because that's what i usually see in my LFS]
