so. i just had a tea party on friday. but today is my birthday and we have off school. so i took it as a sign from god that i needed to have a party on sunday night. so i convinced my parents to allow me to have a 'small gathering' (which ended up being twenty seven people in my really small basement.) after last year's cupcake massacre, my dearest mom and dad were a little concerned about the party and told me if any small incident should occur, i wouldn't be able to get my permit for another three weeks- MINIMUM. so clearly. nothing bad could happen. because i reallly reallllly want to drive.
the theme of the party was trash. i put newspaper all over my walls and on the biggest wall i taped brown craft paper and i graffiti-itized it. later on in the night a couple of my artistic friends found the paint and added to it so it ended up looking much better. and i covered my couch and treadmill and most of the furniture in old sheets. and i put all the pillows in trash bags and covered the chairs in trash bags. i also got toliet paper (which was surprisingly strong- yay dollar store toliet paper) and used it as streamers.  people had to come dressed as some interpretation of 'trashy'. people came as white trash, and hookers, and hobos, and mary-kate olsen, and oscar the grouch and it was just entertaining. though most people changed out of thier costumes by the end. overall it was one of my favorite parties. pictures:













the very best part was at the end when we were cleaning. and neil asked where the trash bags were. and i ripped one off a barstool.

but i'm not 80. though i aspire to be.
so. i went to a phillippino ball with my friend kim. and it pretty much rocked. and her phillippino friend andrew was there. and i was introduced like this:  "this is caitlin. she's good at making things. she could make anything." so this kid's first response is "will you make me something?" and i said of course because a) he's really really nice b) he's really really cute c) he's a local celebrity. any central pennsylvanians out there- it's the guy from koji on the roof and el toro and jura? anyone?

so yeah. i made a monster.

and so then i gave it to him and he loved it and now the monster is on tour.

so. i get majorly bummed around valentine's day. because there is so much cute stuff to buy. and i love red and pink and hearts. and i just feel especially crafty and want to make mix tapes and sweaters and mushy valentines. but alas, i have no one to give these wonderful goodies to. high school boys suck. they'll appreciate me later.

anyway. i decided that this year i'm going to have a tea party for all my boyfriendless gal pals. my mom collects tea pots so we're each going to get a different tea pot. and the invitations are going to be all fancy and lacy and goopy and wonderful. and everyone gets a fun name like "madame ________" or "lady __________" or "duchess __________". because i'm a dork. everyone will be asked to dress nicely in red and pink and white and bring a small gift. we'll have have a chinese auction type thing so we can each get a valentines present. even if it's not from a boy. and then we'll probably watch some audrey hephburn movie or sixteen candles and swoon and whatnot.

so the purpose of me posting all of this was...
does anyone have any other ideas? foodwise? gamewise? decorationwise?
i know it'll be ten times better with craftster imput.

last night was tea party night. and even though a i had a lot of people bail out on me, it was still a crap load of fun. everyone dressed up and we had chicken salad sandwiches and pb&j and cucumber sandwiches and cream puffs and a cherry chip heart shaped cake and a butt load of cookies. and then we had a chinese auction and watched sabrina. and then we all fell asleep. you would think we're forty. but no. we're just a bunch of teenage girls who get a little sleepy past nine o'clock on a friday night. overall it was fairly banging. thanks for all the suggestions!

i basically just covered the furniture in old sheets (that i put fake blood on) so it gave it an abandoned feel and the rest of the house was covered in spiderwebs. yeah. not the craftiest but eh. man did that party stink. we watched night of the living dead and sat around. i cringe to think about it. never again will i host a party in an area 30 minutes away from where my friends all live.

murder mystery party 05.
1920's theme. i wrote the whole game thing cause we're too cheap to buy a kit. we played like this: everyone got an invitation (that my friend kevin insisted on charring beyond readablity) and in the invite they were given a brief character description and ideas for attire.  then at the party people mingled, and then- oh horror- someone was killed. in the treehouse out back. and there were some clues at the scene. so neil (the corpse) was a good sport and layed in the tree house for two hours while we figured out who did it.  and i had hidden clues all over the room and you had to find them but not obviously hunt for them? and you still had to mingle around.  alliances were formed and it was terrific. in the end, the mystery was solved and we jumped on a trampoline.

umm. so this is my birthday party from last year and it was nuts.
and yyyeeaahhh.
everyone was to come as a gypsy, tramp, or theive of some sort. which most of my guy friends interpretted as a toga party. togas with kiddie bedsheets.
30 kids. small basement. mega cheap. have a gander.


yeah...christmas lights and flowers on the ceiling? that's classy.


old curtains over the bar? another nice touch.

story:
my friend eric and i decided that it would be really cool to take 'social dance for the beginner' at the local community place thing. so we do. and while there, we not only met an insane amount of senior citizens and eldery folks but we also decided to make kickarse matching outfits for the upcoming formal dance. which everyone takes WAAAYYY to seriously. so we decided to spice it up a little. and be our not so serious selves.

so we picked some gold quilted fabric and i set to work sewing. i originally made my skirt out of the gold stuff but that was making me look like mrs. jetson so i bagged that plan. and the top was originally..ugly. to be very honest. so i ended up with a simple dress and belt thiny. and eric's coat was made by cutting apart a $2 suit coat (three cheers for half off day at salvation army). andddd....here's some pictures:

yea. so we got to the gym and decided that we would wear our sunglasses like the rock stars we are. and we were totally serious- poker faces the whole night. and all kinds of teachers and random kids got their pictures taken with us. and our nazi sewing teacher drooled over the suit coat. and i was like HELLSYYEEAHHH TAKE THAT ICE WOMAN! and yeah. it felt good. and people asked why we made our outfits and so we responded: "we're sticking it to the man".

does anyone remember that song from barney that said something about pumpernickel bread? because it's stuck in my head. but it just keeps saying "pumpernickel pumpernickel pumpernickel bread." and it's starting to really bother me.

i feel rather silly reposting things. because of course the day my camera gets fixed and i post pictures is the meltdown day.

i-pod cozies that will most likely not fit ipods but could be useful in many other ways. i used lubees tutorial. which is very helpful. and i just realized that i have a complete felt addiction. and i need an intervention.
