so my friend mike's first reaction to my dress was: "nice cait. it's very birdlike." i feel like that might have something to do with the feathers....
it's a basic strapless dress made of royal blue gabardine and lined with green satin. there's a zipper in the back as well as a small slit so i can get my groove on. i then handsewed all the peacock feathers on the front. my mom did my hair and put a bunch of feathers in it.
i actually really lucked out with the peacock feathers- i got 30 of them for $5 at a yard sale.
and we rolled up to prom in a firetruck with the sirens blaring. solid.
The Lower Paxton Youth Center is holding it's second DIY Fest on Saturday May 31st and is looking for craftsters to table their goods. It's completely free which is awesome and the event itself is going to be fantastic. There's craft workshops, local vendors, music, games, and a vegan potluck. The event starts at noon and lasts until 10, though you could close shop earlier than that if you wanted/needed to. If you're interested please let me know- csw5090@gmail.com. Even if you aren't interested in being a vendor, you should come anyway!

my coworker is leaving for college and comissioned a bag from me. she wanted a ziptop tote and said she likes sylvia plath and yellow. and this is the result:
close up of the details:
and the back detail:
i used iron-on transfer paper to put the picture and quotes on yellow textured fabric. but i absolutely hate iron-on transfers; mine always end up looking cheap and peeling. so i put a layer of vinyl over them as well. the top has a zipper and this crazy one strap thing with one part in the front and one in the back. overall i'm fairly happy with the bag. let me know what you think!
