41  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: safari prom oh seven on: May 29, 2007 07:00:50 PM
wow, i love how you interpretated the theme of your dance but what about the other girls, thy look like wearing just usual dance dresses and nothing theme like

yeah- they all dressed normally. i think it's enough that i make them put up with my outrageous outfits and ridiculous methods of transportation. i'm not going to force them to get in on it. although the one girl's dress is this really neat vintage frock if you can see it in the pictures...

and here's more pictures- they should give you a better idea of what the dress looked like....

The higher the hair, the closer to God, ladies.

It's so B-52's.  I have rarely been so jealous of another person.  It is great.

yeah i totally loved the whole bee-hive idea and i actually took a pictures of the lady from the b-52's to the hair place when i got it done....the phone call my mom made to set up my appointment went something like:
mom: yes she'd like a beehive...no...not an updo....like...a beehive.....no she's not elderly......

i'm not going to lie- i have no idea how people used to do their hair like that on a regular basis back in the day. the lady who did my hair said they had never had a request for a beehive before and she never learned it in beauty school so it was all experimental.  i have really long and really really thick hair. so she just left the outer layer down and teased the middle part; then pinned the teased pieces in a cone shape and covered it with the outer hair. it was such a process and we kept having to redo it because i didn't have enough hair on the outside. to make this all ten billion times better, another girl from my school was two chairs away from me getting her updo done with little curls and flowers while my lady was teasing my hair out remarking that i looked like a cavewoman as i continued to urge her to make it even bigger....
yeah.
it's like that.

in the process:

and then taking it out afterwards ( three friends and a bottle of conditioner):

there's more obnoxious pictures of me being trashy with my rat's nest hair in the link under my first post.

it's never enough for me to just buy a nice, normal dress and go to a formal dance. i can never settle for simple updo and limo. it always have to be a themed ordeal. my poor date (who made a pact with me freshman year to escort me to every school dance) is just realzing that he will never have a normal dance-going experience.

so. for my junior prom, the theme was the ever epic SAFARI PROM.
i made my dress as well as eric's vest and cravat.  i don't have any pictures of the back but i used gold grommets and then laced up the back with black silky cord.  the bottom part of the dress was four different prints. it was very nice. i didn't use a pattern cause patterns are for suckers. sike. they're more like for people who are smart enough to know how to use them and who are gentle enough that they don't rip them to shreds attempting to unfold them.

and our mode of transportation:

aww hellyes. big pimpin.

I like it! It's super cute, does the print have paisley?

yeah it's like this crazy black fabric with paisley plus these huge red roses. i'll try and take a better picture of the fabric...

bought the fabric at goodwill on half off day. i was having a surprise birthday dinner for my best friend and wanted to have something nice to wear so i whipped up this little number in about two hours. really easy to make. i don't have any particularly awesome pictures of it but you get the jist of it....

deep v-neck front with a slight crossover. elastic under the bust. goes to right about the knee. hella easy to make. i wore it with a black belt i have.  i like it. let me know what you think!

i haven't posted any of my projects in ten thousand years. so here we go.

i made this dress for our snowflake ball. i picked the most horrific color combination i could find, drafted the pattern, etc. etc. i also made the giraffe print cropped jacket seen in the bottom picture as well as my date's flower thingy. butionare? butinere? i'm too lazy to go to dictionary.com and figure out for sure.

i got the cute lil lazy eye thing going on.

and the badass story to accompany this last picture:

so before this dance, we had a really nice dinner at my friend jonas' house. and we had such a nice time that we were a little late getting to the dance. the doors close at 8 and we arrived at 8:10 thinking nothing of it because a) jonas' mother had called to let the teachers know we would be late/we werent out drinking and b) we all had set up for the dance and had to be there because we're all student council members and it's mandatory for student council kids. so we go inside and as soon as we head towards the gym we get chased down by teachers/ the rent a cop man. long story short, we were thrown out of the dance and i got a special police escorting out because i had an 'attitude problem'. so we took that last picture, a bunch of our parents came down to the dance, bitched out the teachers and we got in for the last five minutes. the end.

49  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Zines? on: May 27, 2007 11:15:05 AM
i've participated in a fair amount of swaps but i've never organzied one.  i'd be glad to try and organize this one because it seems fairly simple- just everyone send a copy of their zine to everyone else involved? right?
