1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Mystery yarn - what the heck is it? on: November 01, 2006 09:45:39 PM
Definately Red Heart.  I think I used that same color combo to make the Big Bad Baby Blanket from Stitch & Bitch.

Here it is:

Yeah I didn't see what the gauge is supposed to be in the directions...but I am using worsted weight yarn....

I mean, you can determine how far it will stretch if you knit a st stitch swatch first.  When I made my hat, I used size 5's for the ribing and size 8's for the body of the hat because I liked the fit better.  I also tend to knit a bit looser than most people, so my gauge is probably different from that of other people in the KAL.  Try the swatch first and determine from that whether it is too big or small.

It may look small, but part of that is the ribbing.  Plus, rember that it is supposed to stay snug around your head.  Did you knit a swatch on your size 6 needles first?

How does your's fit on your head?  I'm curious to see the different fits for everyone's hat.

I've been wanting to make one of these for a while, but I wasn't sure if  there was a method to the madness in terms of making it able to hold the needles.  Did you add any space when you sewed on the top pockets?  It seems like if you don't the needles won't fit.  Also, how far apart did you space them?

I tried it w/ Lamb's Pride Bulky and my gauge was pretty close.  I just want mine to be machine washable. Undecided

How much does it suck that all of the yarn/craft stores in my area ran out of Wool Ease Chunky. Angry  I'm going to try with Lamb's Pride Bulky and if not, troop out to Queens and see if I can find any there.  Why me?! Undecided

I just cast on for these... I'm game.

So, after my 3rd try, I came to the conclusion that I should knit on size 8's instead of 9's and stop around 8.5-9".  I am very happy with my hat.

The one in the movie didn't sag as much as the pattern calls for... or maybe I just have a small head.

My mom is a nutritionist and would love a pattern like that!
