1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Cooking Swaps on: March 27, 2011 04:31:31 PM
I crochet and I bake, but I have never seen a cooking swap on here...not that I have been doing swaps for very long. Anyway, I have two ideas for cooking swaps.

The first is pretty simple. A recipe swap...yes, I know, this is easily done via email. I just like the idea of sending them via snail mail. It could be required that you send one appetizer, one bread and/or soup, one entree, and one dessert...or something along those lines. Maybe just do family recipes...nothing out of a cookbook. (at least not a recent cook book)

The other swap I would like to do is a bread or a cookie swap. Both of these are reasonably simple to ship..as far as foods go.

I've never organized a swap, but if people are interested in participating in either of these swaps, I'd like to try my hand at it. If I do, I'd like to start towards the end of April or the start of May.

Anyone interested??

So, I have a studded belt that the studs are constantly falling off of and I am wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what to do with them?
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Need pattern--Hooded Cloak with Train on: January 12, 2011 07:41:54 PM
I am looking for a full-length hooded cloak pattern with a train....one that will work well sewn in velvet with satin lining.

Thanks in advance!
4  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Scarf Pattern (First one I have written.) on: December 30, 2010 02:44:42 PM

This is the first pattern I have written myself, so it may need some work. If you notice anything that needs to be changed, please let me know.

I used Red Heart Worsted Weight Yarn. You will need 3 colors for this pattern. I used an I hook, but I think a J or H will also work well.

With A, CH 20.
Row 1: SC in second CH and each CH across. CH 1, turn.
Row 2: SC first stitch. *Skip a stitch and SC & DC in next stitch.* Repeat from *to* across up to last stitch. SC in last stitch. CH 1, turn.
Row 3: SC first stitch. *Skip a stitch and SC & DC in next stitch.* Repeat from *to* across up to last stitch. SC in last stitch, changing color to B halfway through stitch. CH 1, turn.
Row 4: DC in first stitch and each stitch across. Change color to C in last stitch. CH 1, turn.
Row 5: SC in first stitch and each stitch across. Change color to B in last stitch. CH 1, turn.
Row 6: DC in first stitch and each stitch across. Change color to A in last stitch. CH 1, turn.
Row 7: SC first stitch. *Skip a stitch and SC & DC in next stitch.* Repeat from *to* across up to last stitch. SC in last stitch. CH 1, turn.
Repeat Row 7 until desired length.
Finishing Row 1: SC first stitch. *Skip a stitch and SC & DC in next stitch.* Repeat from *to* across up to last stitch. SC in last stitch, changing color to B halfway through stitch. CH 1, turn.
Finishing Row 2: DC in first stitch and each stitch across. Change color to C in last stitch. CH 1, turn.
Finishing Row 3: SC in first stitch and each stitch across. Change color to B in last stitch. CH 1, turn.
Finishing Row 4: DC in first stitch and each stitch across. Change color to A in last stitch. CH 1, turn.
Finishing Row 5-6: SC first stitch. *Skip a stitch and SC & DC in next stitch.* Repeat from *to* across up to last stitch. SC in last stitch. CH 1, turn.
Finishing Row 7: SC in first stitch and each stitch across. Finish off.

If desired, SC around to give it a cleaner look. (Not shown in photos.)

5  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Cards on: December 26, 2010 09:57:16 PM
I need ideas of what to do with old cards (xmas, bday, baby, etc). I don't scrapbook, but I hate to throw cards away. The past year though, my family has gotten over 20 cards though, and if it keeps up like this, we will have way too many. What can I do with them when I no longer have space to hang them up on my wall? lol
6  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Stocking on: December 19, 2010 01:08:26 PM
This is going to be my son's first Christmas, so I decided to make him his first stocking. I fail at making socks, so I decided to go simple with it.

Originally, I was going to make this pattern: http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/81061AD.html?r=1

However, I ended up making a couple changes and ended up with a cute elf-stocking. Its not terribly uniform, but I am pleased with it being my first attempt.

7  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Free Crochet Cloak Pattern? on: December 08, 2010 08:42:25 PM
Hi. I am looking for a free CROCHET cloak pattern. I have been searching for one on the internet, but have had no luck. All I can find is doll clothes, baby clothes, and non-crochet patterns. I cannot sew and I cannot knit.

I would like to make a full length, hooded cloak. If anyone knows where I can find a pattern for this, I'd greatly appreciate it.
8  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Beer Caps on: November 22, 2010 04:24:50 PM
I have a HUGE collection of beer caps that I have been saving for a few years in hopes of making something with them. I had thought about a belt, but I am not sure how to go about that....not that itd use them all up. lol I dont just want to link them together, but engrave them into a leather (or fake leather) belt.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!
9  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Vegan Oatmeal Raisin Cookies on: November 21, 2010 04:39:44 PM
I am not vegan, but I created this recipe one night after realizing that I had not eggs or butter. I examined multiple different oatmeal cookie recipes and converted the finished product to exclude eggs and butter. I have made them for guests and potlucks multiple times since then, and they have always been a huge hit. (I always have to eat a few before I serve them, or I wont get to eat any! lol) They are also reasonably easy to mix by hand, which is a big plus for me, as all I do not own a mixer. (As much baking as I do, I really should invest in one.)

Vegan Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Ingredients

    cups packed light brown sugar
    banana (mashed)
cup + 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    tablespoon honey
cup flour (whatever kind you prefer)
    teaspoon baking soda
    teaspoon salt
    teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1 cups rolled oats
    cup raisins
    cup coconut

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
2. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until smooth. Stir in the banana, vanilla and honey. Sift   together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon; gradually stir into the creamed mixture. Finally, stir in the rolled oats, raisins, and coconut.
3. Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto unprepared cookie sheet. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven, until cookies start to brown. Remove from baking sheets immediately and cool on wire racks.

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Need a wedding dress pattern on: November 21, 2010 02:45:56 PM
I am going to be married next September. A friend of mine offered to make my wedding dress, but I need to find a pattern. I am not completely sure what type of dress I want, but I am thinking of a knee-length dress or one that is shorter in front and longer in the back. I have been having some trouble finding any wedding dress patterns though, and would greatly appreciate any help you can offer.

Thanks!

(I hope I am posting in the correct forum...still figuring this web site out.)
