11  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Making your own bathing suit/bikini? on: May 03, 2005 09:07:36 AM
I'm planning on making my own bathing suits this summer.
I'm thinking about making a bikini (kinda retro with wide ties at the sides, around back, and neck) and a less revealing one-piece with cutout sides (same halter style tie top and back, but with a front panel to cover my tummy)

Does anyone have any tips? Any fabric suggestions or tips on where to get some?

12  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / CopyCat Recipes!!! on: April 30, 2005 05:22:04 PM
I'd like to make this a home for any good copy-cat recipes anyone has. I've seen some here and there, but when you search for them nothing comes up.

Anyway...I love copy-cat recipes! My mom has a book at her house with a few great recipes and I'll post from it when I can. Please post yours!!

AND...do any Southerners know how to make something like Zaxby's chicken fingers or wings (including sauces!)? My boyfriend loves their wings like crazy. He'll marry me tomorrow if I can figure out how to make something similar at home!

13  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Big plain tea towels to embroider? on: April 21, 2005 07:07:23 PM
Do any of y'all know where I can find plain tea towels to embroider? (I'm talking BIG like at least 20X20 in)
Or even just the right dimensions in fabric would be awesome.
14  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Making my own lip stain?? on: April 21, 2005 06:34:58 PM
Does anyone have a good recipe for a lip stain?

I've heard of using a little food coloring, cake decorating pigments, or cool-aid (tastes good too!) in a petroleum jelly base, but I'm a little afraid to try it myself. I'd like to make a stain that's smooth (not sticky like a balm), but still conditioning...any Tips?
15  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Sunburn Remedies!!! on: April 17, 2005 07:35:27 AM
Hey y'all.  Summer is coming and I got a heinous sunburn yesterday...so I was thinking...Does anyone have any good remedies for sunburn?

I've found one that works better than aloe-based gels: Gold Bond Powder! Its not just for guys' balls and babies! (yellow container, if you use blue or green, you might be real sorry!)

Anything else would be greatly GREATLY appreciated. OH...and tips on not getting sunburned would be cool too! I'm very fair skinned and I live in the South, so no matter what I do I fry!

16  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Pictures of a 50's mens suit? on: April 12, 2005 06:10:37 PM
Does anyone have any idea where I can find pictures or patterns for 50's menswear (especially a suit) online?
17  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Round Straw Placemat Purse on: April 09, 2005 09:16:16 AM
I loved the idea bagheraa had for a purse made out of a round placemat, so here's my version!

I bought the plack handles from Wal-mart. I used a big button to make a closure. The lining is a cute little western hankie pattern with paisley and hearts. I covered shoes to match!
18  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / Red and White dottie shoes: painted canvas slip-ons on: April 09, 2005 09:09:44 AM
Hey here are my new favorite summer shoes! I saw this idea on another thread and had to try it out. I bought a cheap pair of white mens boat shoes from K-mart. Then I just painted them red with white polka dots using regular old acrylic craft paint. No sealer! No textile medium! I wore them in the rain yesterday and they still look as good as new.

They're not done yet though! I'm gonna paint a little swallow on the top of the right one (the one that's only a little dotted)

19  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Setting a 40's or 50's hairstyle? on: April 02, 2005 09:25:17 AM
I'm a big fan of 40's and 50's hairstyles and more modern spins on them. I'm pretty good at getting them to look right, but I have trouble getting them to set. Does anyone have any tips/products that make them stay put all day? If you wear a similar hairstyle on a pretty regular basis please post pics and/or give advice!
20  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Patriotic Computer Case Mod on: April 01, 2005 09:39:58 PM
I've never seen a case mod on craftster so here ya go! My boyfriend and I (I did most of the painting) modded up his computer for a MaximumPC (magazine) patriotic themed case modding contest.

We picked a "Rosie the Riveter" theme and turned the case into a big metal toolbox by painting it with blue automotive spray paint (took forever! I tried to do a professional job). Them we added real hinges, a handle and other hardware to fake a took box look. I then added a bunch of war "stickers" to one side and painted a version of the Rosie poster on other (me as Rosie, my boyfriend's idea).

We got an honorable mention, got a picture and mention in MaximumPC and a $200 video card that my BF got to pick out. Pretty neat.

Sorry about the tiny pics, I can scrounge around for some bigger ones if anyone's really interested.
