Time for the wonderful goodies from Sweetyetevil and her state of Michigan.

the tshirt is from Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum in Farmington Hills, MI.  its the history of neato mechanical stuff.

my son really likes the looks of this place and asked if he could have one of his birthday parties there... if we are in a hotel in MI around that time...
And a hoop with a felt robin, the state bird of MI ... have the perfect spot for him in my hart gallery (hallway art).  *LOVE* it!

also was a snack from the oldest pistachio shelling company, a cajun snack mix.  its in the general pic but my children have walked off with it.  the taste i got was YUMMY!!!  ok, gotta end the post so i can get more....

thank you again Sweetyetevil!!!

83  Raku cup for tea ceremony in Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects by pjr107 on: September 16, 2011 09:05:23 AM
I've been taking raku for a while now and figured I should get on the ball and post a few things... this last session had us finishing up out class with a Japanese tea ceremony and here is the cup I made for it.
sorry for the crummy images, I was working with my cell phone too late at night

The outside is Dee's Discovery (I  should say I'm almost positive that's what it is)

and the inside is Blue Nebula that has been heavily reduced.  It is this really neat yellowish/greenish/silvery/blue and neither picture does it justice.

thanks for looking

Guess who showed up at my house!

He hatched as soon as the envelope was open, and what a beautiful egg it was.  Darko maybe shy, but he was squirming to get out of that egg!

He is just darling! Thank you so much Petra!

85  Three seashells for one final summer moment (pic heavy) in CHALLENGE 66 ENTRIES by pjr107 on: September 08, 2011 07:19:58 PM
Apologies now for the not so great pictures: I am stuck with my cell phone only at the moment!

I've been taking a raku pottery class for a few years now and I find that my art is always inspired by what's around me.  These three shells are pinch pots that were made after a trip to the Jersey Shore and hours of scouring the beach with my kids.

For those who are not familiar with raku pottery, it's main difference from regular stoneware/ceramics is that a raku piece is pulled out of the hot kiln (causing the glaze to crackle) and placed in a bed of newspapers, sawdust ... flammable items ... and that fire is squelched so that the smoke permeates the clay creating the darken finish.

These specific shells were given a slightly different treatment by not glazing, but by applying terra sig in the greenware stage and various treatments during or just after the final firing.  And my brain is failing me for names so excuse any typoes or hiccups!)

Horse and human hair created the squiggles with a very small amount of sawdust for inside smoking.

This shell was spattered with ferric chloride for the orange spots and the black lines were drawn in with a feather.

Our class tried a new technique where different organic materials are placed around the pottery and then it is fired in a closed container.  The organics burn off in the kiln and the resulting colors that comes from them are beautiful. Honestly, it's hard to see the various levels of greys into yellows and whites.

And yes, it's always amazing to my 7yo that he can hear the ocean in a shell.

Enjoy those last moments of summer (or the start of them, depending on where you are!)

Let see if this works....

Megan, that box was wonderful!  let see if the photos post (if not, they are in the member's gallery under my name...)

and .....

SHAZAM!!!!

that's all the cool things stuffed in that little box

it had a Beaker made out of felt (your first one?  I could not believe that!)

and a flux capacitor

and stuffed inside that was two vial charms (and the chain but that didn't make the pics)
one of Instant Grow pills and the other of Iocane powder

Beaker is hanging out with my Muppet comics and the flux capacitor sits with me near the computer.  The two vials were with the comix but my son seems to have such a fascination with them so they walk around the house.

Also included was the Genie as a bee and the Ghostbusters logo.  Very cool Smiley

Thanks again Megan!
