Wonderful job! And my guess is the one second from the left in the top row (sky blue and violet)...?

beautiful dress.  I love the purple details.

Thank you! I typically don't go for purple, but I think it worked out quite well.

I think it is great that you were you were able to solve your fitting issue and that it turned out to be a "bonus" detail down the front!  That is what I love best about sewing...you can make your own modifications for fit and style!

I think it is a modern take on the LBD...it would be darling with a shrug or cardigan when the weather gets cooler...and a change of accessories will also change the look...

Very cute and practical LBD!  Love it!

Thanks! You're definitely right that it's a very modern take on the LBD. I originally bought this pattern intending to do it in black and white houndstooth with red tulle. But then I saw this challenge and realized I didn't have an LBD and it would look good in black and a bright color anyway. Voila!

Love the topstitching!!

Thank you! I was watching my spool of thread like a hawk as I did my last line of topstitching. I think I had literally just a few feet of thread left!

Great style!! I totally adore your dress and the necklace! What's the pattern?

Thank you! The dress pattern is Burda 8174; it's part of the Burda Young series. The necklace instructions can be found here:

...with the modifications I described in the original post that I think turned out really nice.
Happy crafting!

Your dress turned out great. I love the addition of the purple tulle to the bottom and your necklace. Great job!
Such a great dress and especially like the little additions you made. Smiley
Very cute, I love the purple tulle it adds a nice touch!
*gasp* Thank you lovelies sooooo much! I hardly have any purple in my closet at all and picked the color in the store. I figured I'd go to the store and pick whatever color suited my fancy and then pick out everything else (thread, satin lining, etc.) to match.

Yaaay! It's entry day! I see that nobody else has posted anything past me and am starting to wonder if I missed a memo...?

Anyway, here's my latest creation:

And the button closure on the halter, although I don't plan to ever unbutton/rebutton it (I just slip it over my head):

Here's a closeup of the button flower necklace:

I did use a pattern. Burda 8174 to be exact:

http://www.simplicity.com/p-7244-burda-style-dress.aspx

I made view C with only minor modifications (like adding an extra line of topstitching on the bottom hem) and just one that was very noticeable. I made the bodice and then realized it was several inches too large. But the seams would be in all the wrong places if I just cut from the loose ends that would later be attached to the zipper. I cut the center piece of the front of the bodice exactly in half and sewed it back together. That took away 1 1/4" for the new seam. The bodice was then the *perfect* size! Seriously, the seams lined up with the skirt and everything! I did topstitching on that new center seam. I thought it looked really nice and gave it more of a corset-ish look.

The button-flower necklace was not my idea. It came from here:

http://www.scatteredthoughtsofacraftymom.com/2012/02/no-sew-fabric-flowers.html

I did a variation on the one-circle "pattern." I cut 3 circles: 1 black denim and 2 purple tulle. I layered them and sewed them together straight down the middle, folded the tulle over to one side (left side is now 1 layer denim, right side 1 layer denim and 4 tulle), and then continued with the pattern as if it were one circle of fabric. I think it turned out really cute.

Comments and questions very welcome!

I would still avoid it. I have kitchen scissors and fabric scissors on my desk during projects, depending on what needs cutting at any given moment.

That's what I've always done as well. Thanks for the feedback!
