i was very torn as to where to post this, so i apologize in advance if it should be somewhere else!
my husband and i are on a tight budget this year, so i decided to do more home-made christmas gifts than store-bought. i had an idea to make a "travel kit" for my two cousins (age 10 and 11), to keep everything together when they travel. i started with a "page" for markers/crayons and a coloring book:
i found a set of 20 washable markers, so i divied them up so each had 10 colors. the sleeve is large enough to hold a small coloring book, and i made a booklet out of blank paper for them to doodle on. then, when you flip the "page":
i also wanted a section for their toy cars/spaceships, which they do not leave home without. the "sky" side is a zippered pouch to keep the toys/planes when not in use, and then the opposite is a background to play on with a looping road (it's hard to see in this pic, but the road was stitched with yellow thread for "traffic lanes"). then when they are done, they can close it up and carry away:
i learned a lot in creating this project. mostly that i need to improve my choices of "boy fabrics" in my stash
i'll be trying another one this month for another cousin's birthday with a few changes and modifications (improvements...), so i will create a tutorial for it if it works out how i want
hope you enjoy!
