21  Re: Going to the Chapel Swap Gallery!!! in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by megstar on: August 11, 2011 06:20:00 AM
YAY!  after what has been a super-stressful couple of weeks due to work and taking the dog to the vet, getting my package last night from pinkmichk TOTALLY made my week!!!  we got married june 11th of this year, our color was teal/aqua, and the loose "theme" of the wedding was seaglass, which she did a great job incorporating into her crafts Smiley

on top of the wrapped goodies was this fun extra (which you can see has already been opened and eaten be hubby and me!) yummy:

next up was this ADORABLE sock monkey, with a heart charm and my new last name!

my favorite piece in the package was this fantastic hoop, per my wist/request with our initials and wedding date Smiley

THEN, there were more things that were a total surprise!  this pretty beaded set with a tree of life decoration (based off something on my wist as well), set of earrings with "m" and "c" initials, and matching "mr" and "mrs" keychains (hubby was SO excited that he got something just for him too!!):

this set of frames with sea-glass tiles:

and these embroidered pillowcases (took me a minute to orient them correctly and see that they spell "love" Smiley):

and then one more pic of the whole stash:

thank you SOOOOO much pinkmichk!!!  i really LOVE everything, and you were an amazing partner Smiley  can't wait till you get back from vacay, and hopefully my package will be waiting for you  Grin

22  Weeping Angel Hoop in Needlework: Completed Projects by megstar on: July 11, 2011 07:30:17 AM
I made this hoop for padfoot as part of Rnd 6 of the Dr Who Swap, and am just now getting to post it.  The weeping angels were one of her favorite villains (as well as mine), and I wanted to try something different with an embroidery hoop, so I came up with this:

looks innocent enough, but beware, and DON'T BLINK, or else you may find this:

the "flap" can flip from one side to the other, and is held down with snaps.  used 3 strand DMC floss for most of the outlines, and then 2 strands for the interior details.  had so much fun with this themed swap!  may tweak the "method" for the flip page and try it again, i had a lot of trial and error the first time around Smiley

23  My DIY Sea Glass Wedding! in Weddings and Bridal Showers by megstar on: July 05, 2011 03:34:39 PM
My hubby and I were married June 11, 2011 and I did as much DIY as possible to keep within our budget.  Our themes were "eco-friendly" and sea glass, with the color being "malibu" from david's bridal.  I tried not to go TOO picture crazy...enjoy Smiley

The only flowers used were for the bouquets/boutonnieres, so we went for sea glass and candles on the centerpiece:

For the favors, we made heart-shaped birdseed hangers, and made nametags on plantable seeded paper:

For programs, we got plantable seed-embedded paper, printed, folded in have and attached to giant popsicle stick with double-sided tape, and then used a corner punch to decorate the corners:

A close friend of the family made me a label as one of my "something blue"s, so I sewed it into the dress hem "per tradition":

We did not have a flower girl, but instead had 2 ring bearers, so i made their pillows:

For the cake, we made mint-flavored sea-glass candy and made a "mosaic" around the base of each tier:

My cousin made the topper for us.  The glass heart was a votive with our silhouette inside, which was light from behind with an LED light.  She used sea-glass pebbles to cover the outside:

For accessories, my mom found an antique brooch at a local vintage store, which I converted into my hair fascinator.  It is hard to see, but the stones were blue and matched the shape of the embellishment on my dress:

Finally, my sister (and M.O.H.) had a great idea for us to wear 80's wayfarers.  I ordered from Amazon, and when hers arrived, they were NOT the right color blue (they were straight up NAVY!).  2 days before the wedding, I did not have enough time to exchange for another pair, so I got a paint pen and 3 layers later, they finally matched her dress Smiley:

WHEW!  I have to say that I have SO much respect for wedding planners after going through the process on my own.  Luckily, it was worth all the effort, and despite a crazy thunderstorm, we all had a fabulous time Smiley

Hope you enjoyed looking!

24  Re: Embroidery Hoopla Rnd 5 - Color Spectrum Gallery!! (Send 6/6/11) in The Swap Gallery by megstar on: June 23, 2011 08:01:36 AM
after having to wait until after my honeymoon and after MUCH fighting with the post office, i have finally gotten my gorgeous hoop from javede!!  she took my 70's/vintage theme and created her own pattern for this cute little number:

the aqua color on the satin stitch matches my wedding color PERFECTLY, so it already goes so well in my house Smiley  she also did a great label for the back:

thank you so much javede, i LOVE it Smiley  it was well worth the wait!

25  Re: Doctor Who Swap round 6 gallery in The Swap Gallery by megstar on: May 26, 2011 05:40:24 AM
received a FANTASTIC package from padfoot last night.  it started with a box:

which was definitely bigger on the inside!!
there was a little doctor:

a weeping angel:

and a little adipose baby:

at this point i am already squealing in delight, and i look in the box to see ANOTHER treat, my own sonic screwdriver!:

the whole group:

amazing work (sorry for some of the blurry pics)! these ami's are a skill i totally admire, and padfoot's work is meticulous!

but wait, there's MORE!!  wrapped in tardis blue tissue paper with a tardis blue note was this beauty:

it's an image straight from my wist, and I LOVE IT!!!!  it went straight up on the wall and will NEVER come down Smiley

THANK YOU so much for everything padfoot, you were a fantastic partner!

26  Embroidered Handkerchiefs in Needlework: Completed Projects by megstar on: April 18, 2011 12:16:08 PM
my best friend is getting married in a month and told me she didn't have a handkerchief for the big day, so i decided to embroider one for her.  her colors are black and white and coral, and her flower is the orchid, so i did a coral orchid for hers.  my fiance got a bit jealous, so i made one for him too with the "caldari" logo, which is also a "c" for his name Smiley

close-up of the orchid, i used 6 strand for the outside of the flower/bud, and 2 strand for the inner details and the stem:

close-up of the caldari logo, done all 6 strand:

these were my first full embroidery projects, and now i am hooked!  after finishing these, i promptly signed up for the next hoopla swap round Smiley

27  Mini Art Quilt - Spacey in Quilting: Completed Projects by megstar on: April 11, 2011 07:12:01 AM
i just finished my first swap with an excellent partner, thanks sloth003!!  i decided to use a couple of her themes: space/science, gerbera daisies, and dinosaurs, and had a FABULOUS time making it:

she told me her favorite "space thing" was pictures from the hubble telescope, so i found 3 different ones and printed them on printable fabric, and then i embellished all the celestial fabrics with seed beads on the stars.  for the gerbera daisies, i attempted an elongated "lazy daisy", with a seed bead center:

also, after PM'g back and forth, i discovered we had a shared love of dr. who, so i had to include a little reference Smiley  i have done some cross-stitch in the past, but all of the amazing needlework on this site inspired me to attempt some embroidery for the first time, so i free handed a TARDIS using backstitch and a seed bead for the light, with embroidery/beading for a "star trail" behind it:

did a cross-stitch label for the back with blue fading thread:

i have SO MUCH respect now for all of you who embroider and/or use seed beads regularly!  was also VERY thankful for the binding tutorial that MareMare posted for us-i'll never do binding another way again!  it was hard to send this away when i was done, but it was totally worth it for the AMAZING MAQ i got in return Smiley

now i am officially addicted to the swaps  Grin

28  Re: Mini Art Quilt Swap 4 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by megstar on: April 04, 2011 05:53:12 AM
came home Saturday to a WONDERFUL surprise:

sloth003 took my "starry night" theme and "dragonfly" theme and made this BEAUTIFUL piece.  she used suede on the cat-tails which gave a fabulous texture, picked gorgeous batik and celestial fabrics which she knew i would love, and best of all: IT LIGHTS UP!!!! (will try to add some good "action shots" of the lights later)
some detail shots:
the 3D dragonfly (the wings are a netted fabric layered over the shiny, with seed beads all around the edge):

the cat-tails with some stars (inside the star is the lightbulb!):

more of the stars/moon with embedded lights (and one with beads):

and the back (where the wires were covered in puffy paint-it makes sense now!):

I am totally astounded by the AMAZING work that sloth did, and LOVE LOVE LOVE my quilt!!!  thank you for making it such a fabulous first swap for me Smiley

30  Quillow in Quilting: Completed Projects by megstar on: March 07, 2011 11:44:38 AM
my friend requested a "throw pillow" for her birthday this year, so i decided to do a quillow!  she has mostly teal with orange accents in her apartment, so i made the lap quilt out of flannel and the pillow front from quilter's cotton.  was able to put it together in a few hours, and now this is my go-to homemade gift Smiley
all folded up in pillow form:

open view, with both sides of flannel blanket:

blanket folded into 1/3's, ready to be folded into pillow:

almost there:
