received from twisted5whispers after a LONG day of work yesterday:

LOVE the geek glasses and she pulled it from my pinterest.  then, because she claimed that one took "no time at all", she included a second hoop, also pinterest inspired:

which turned out awesome!!  the thread color totally matches our wedding color, i love the background fabric, and my hubs appreciated having something that included him as well Smiley
thank you so much, i'll be cranking on yours all weekend to s/o monday!

12  Kids travel kit in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by megstar on: February 01, 2013 07:06:14 AM
i was very torn as to where to post this, so i apologize in advance if it should be somewhere else!
my husband and i are on a tight budget this year, so i decided to do more home-made christmas gifts than store-bought.  i had an idea to make a "travel kit" for my two cousins (age 10 and 11), to keep everything together when they travel.  i started with a "page" for markers/crayons and a coloring book:

i found a set of 20 washable markers, so i divied them up so each had 10 colors.  the sleeve is large enough to hold a small coloring book, and i made a booklet out of blank paper for them to doodle on.  then, when you flip the "page":

i also wanted a section for their toy cars/spaceships, which they do not leave home without.  the "sky" side is a zippered pouch to keep the toys/planes when not in use, and then the opposite is a background to play on with a looping road (it's hard to see in this pic, but the road was stitched with yellow thread for "traffic lanes").  then when they are done, they can close it up and carry away:

i learned a lot in creating this project.  mostly that i need to improve my choices of "boy fabrics" in my stash Smiley  i'll be trying another one this month for another cousin's birthday with a few changes and modifications (improvements...), so i will create a tutorial for it if it works out how i want Smiley
hope you enjoy!

14  Scrabble Tile Magnets in Completed Projects by megstar on: February 01, 2013 06:32:34 AM

After creating a set of Scrabble Tile Coasters for a Christmas gift, I had tiles leftover.  I decided to use the remaining letters to make a set of magnets as another gift.  I glued the tiles to strips of cork, used modge podge and a clear coating to seal them, and then stuck a magnet strip on the back, and voila!

15  Christmas TuTus in Winter Holidays by megstar on: December 12, 2012 07:43:04 AM
My sister and I signed up for the "Jingle Bell Run" this year (a 5k), and wanted to have something festive to wear.

We decided on holiday tutus, in the style of: http://www.theimaginationtree.com/2011/12/easy-no-sew-tutu.html  I found red 1" elastic at JoAnn's for the waistbands, and we found red, silver, and green glittery tulle at AC Moore.  I LOVED the way the glitter looked when done, but it was a mess on my craft room floor Smiley  I had made an elf hat with ears our of fleece last year, so I wore that and some striped socks from Target to complete the look.  My sister found some reindeer antlers, and we were ready to walk!

16  Mustache Mugs in Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects by megstar on: December 12, 2012 07:17:26 AM
For a White Elephant party this year, I decided to do a home-made craft I'd been wanting to make.  I had seen on pinterest that if you write on a white mug in sharpie and bake it, it will stay permanent!  I found a set of 4 white mugs on sale and made a set with a different mustache on each.  Picking which 4 was definitely the hardest part!

I was really happy with how they turned out, and they were a hit at the party, so I will definitely be repeating this craft  Smiley

17  It's Adventure Time! Finn, PB and BMO in Halloween Costumes by megstar on: November 08, 2012 09:04:18 AM

My husband and I LOVE adventure time, so when he suggested it for halloween I was on-board Smiley

My husband dressed as Finn the human.  His hat and backpack were homemade from scratch, shirt and shorts we altered/resewn to fit/work from purchased items.
I went as Princess Bubblegum:

Dress and crown were hand-made, wig was purchased, and I had to grab a pink sweater from my closet since I can't go sleeve-less at work Smiley
We also dressed our dog as beemo:

His costume was made from a painted cardboard box:

Hope you enjoy, we sure had a blast!

got home for lunch and found THIS in my mailbox:

thank you Seereeoslee!
attempt at a close-up:

she used all blue variegated thread (which i LOVE) on a fun background!  plus it's a really cool fill stitch (chain stitch?) that must have required ample patience Smiley
THANK YOU!!!
