11  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Felted bag on: November 13, 2007 11:59:25 AM
I made up this bag as I went along from an image I had in my head.  All things considered I think it turned out well!  It's for a friend for Christmas, so I hope she likes it  Smiley

I think it looks better when it's standing up/being used and the sides aren't squished out like this, but it's a good way to show the colors and the rest of the bag  Smiley
12  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / if you die in Canada... on: September 16, 2007 03:18:15 AM
you die in REAL LIFE!

another xkcd special.  I'm pretty much loving this sleeve shape.  this one needed some more visual interest so I added a kangaroo pocket.  I also love kangaroo pockets.

just in case you missed it, it's one stick figure yelling at another, 'don't you get it?  if you die in Canada, you die in REAL LIFE!'

it looks better in real life, I promise.  Cheesy  (mainly it is not squished!)
(hey, I made the hat too.  Cheesy)

I feel prolific.
13  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / I am kind of strange on: September 16, 2007 01:08:00 AM
I'm kind of a huge fan of the webcomic xkcd.  I saw this particular comic and really wanted to put it on a shirt.  so I went to Wal-mart and as luck would have it the only white t-shirts they had were large and up...  I wear a small.  so I was like, whatever, I'll do a recon, and bought a 3X.

The text says, 'Before you talk to me, I should warn you:  I am kind of strange.'  I put a little 'xkcd.com' underneath the dinosaur because the image is under a Creative Commons license  Smiley  yay CC!!

excuse me looking all dramatic.  this is just to show the tendency of the shirt to want to go off-shoulder.  but that's cool, it looks kind of cool that way, I might wear it like that sometimes.

the back.  I tried to put a strap there to hold it up, but I didn't get it high enough or tight enough so it's mostly just decoration  Tongue  oh well.  it's cute.

the shirt's a little tight... haha, seam allowances should probably be a little bigger next time.  seems like every recon I do is like that... you'd think I'd learn.  whatever!  I'm happy with it, I think I'll wear it to class Monday.
14  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / For the Alliance! on: August 29, 2007 01:02:49 PM
So you might remember the Horde hat I made my friend.  And you might remember that I said I'd never do that again.

But you probably wouldn't be surprised to find out that I lied.

ALLIANCE HAT FTW

hat on mah head.  I wish I'd made a size larger, but more for fashion reasons than fit.  it fits great as usual.

and me lookin' like a dork.  though I guess it's not possible NOT to look like a dork while wearing a WoW hat.

my Horde friend is not impressed, but whatever.  I put too much work into this hat for that!  Tongue
15  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Horde Headgear on: August 14, 2007 07:51:56 PM
so one of my best guy friend's birthdays is coming up, and we're both big WoW geeks.  he is 110% horde, so when he asked me for a hat, I knew exactly what I wanted to make.

the pattern is the basic Hot Head from S'n'B, in the large size.  ('cause he has a huge head and lots of hair!)  it only took me like an hour and a half to make the hat, but it took FOREVER to sew on the felt logo!  I am NEVER doing an applique on ribbed knitting again, I swear.  anyway, it came out so awesome I want to keep it for myself...  and I'm alliance.

anyhow, pictures!

you probably can't read the tag.  it says:
Horde Headgear
Binds when equipped
Head              Cloth
+10 Cold Resistance
+50 Pwning Alliance N00bs
+100 Complete Awesomeness
Durability 100/100
Requires Level 70
Equip:  Proclaims to the world your faction pride.

and yeah, I know, you'll never find a BOE orange.  but if I made it BOP I couldn't give it away  Wink

hat without the tag in the way.

me modeling the hat, so you can see how the insignia looks when it's stretched to the proper size.  the diamond is a little off-center...  which bugs me.  but it's just a quirk.

I love this hat!  I haven't taken it off since I finished it.  I hope he likes it too  Cheesy

EDIT:  he LOVED it.  he literally freaked out over it and said he will wear it forever and ever and ever and only take the tag off of it when it rains, haha.  he's such a dork.  but it fit him perfectly and it looks great.  I'll have to see if I can get an action shot.  but his reaction really made my day.

just thought I'd share  Wink
16  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / plain hoodie? on: August 11, 2007 08:11:50 PM
I would really love to modify a hoodie for my friend's birthday in September, but it needs to be plain (as in a solid color, no logos, no designs, nothing).  I know people here have used them - where do you find them?  I'm not adverse to online ordering, but would slightly prefer a walk-in store.

Thanks!
17  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Knitty's Postmodern Legwarmers on: May 03, 2007 11:09:32 PM
I started knitting these back when it was still cold enough to wear them.  each one only took me about a day and a half, but those days and halves were approximately five months apart!

anyway, they were great for killing time when I should have been studying for exams.  plus they're squishy, comfy, warm, and only cost me $2 (woot for finding Lion Boucle at a dollar store!  why doesn't my dollar store have yarn?!)

it should be noted it's quite a feat to photograph legwarmers on yourself.

18  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Simple Knitted Bodice on: April 23, 2007 09:40:20 PM
Finally finished.  It went really fast, but despite promises that I would be faithful to this one until I finished it... first I didn't have the right needles for the sleeves, then I just got tired of working on DPNs - anyway now it's done!

Please excuse my horrible camera.  Also note three bonus FOs in the back - my three scarves  Cheesy  I especially love the blue one, and of course the Noro one.

I made the SKB in KnitPicks Andean Silk, in Cranberry.  This yarn is sooo yummy.  It needs a good wash and block to get the itchies out and make the sleeves a tad longer, though (though I wish I'd just knitted them longer in the first place).  I only made two modifications: added rows to the upper arms to make the lace match, and did the normal kind of purl ridges around the neck to make it conform to the rest of them.  I love it!
19  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / How much yardage? on: March 01, 2007 12:59:57 AM
I want to make a standard fleece hat for myself.  How much yardage, on average, do you need to make an adult-sized fleece hat?  I've never made one before, and fleece is pricey, so I want to make sure I don't get too little or too much.

Thanks in advance!
20  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / recycle bin? on: February 23, 2006 08:41:40 AM
I think it would be very useful to have a board like a 'recycle bin.'  I've seen it on other forums.  it's just a place where if you make a thread by accident, or accidentally spam the boards (which is easy to do here when the server isn't cooperating, like usual) you can move the thread there instead of leaving it to clutter up the boards.  I know it's embarrassing to me when something posts more than once by accident, and it's irritating to see spam threads like that sitting around, because while the moderators usually do a good job cleaning that up... sometimes it just doesn't happen.  so if we can't delete our own topics, I think it would be good to at least have a place we can move them out of the way.
