Wonky or not, that's adorable, APM. I wish I could help... Despite sewing being my first love, I'm actually not all that good at it. Smiley

I have projects I need to get done, so I'm obviously working on other things. (I need a facepalm smiley...)

First, this cowl.

And these mitts (just like the black ones I posted recently). These are my fifth pair of the same pattern.

152  Red Vines Fingerless Mitts -- Link to pattern added!! in Knitting: Completed Projects by bananaleg on: January 26, 2012 02:13:03 PM
I was in the "A Very Potter Musical" swap last year. My partner, Opaka and i both love the line, "Red Vines: What the hell can't they do?"

So, i knew i had to make something that reminded me of Red Vines. But what? Then i found the mock cable. And thanks to Wise Hilda Knits, i learned to knit a mock cable rib... which, when knit in red, totally looks like licorice!

P.S. Thank you, Opaka, for the photo!

By the way, i've posted these on ravelry. No pattern yet, but i think i might try to knit up another pair and maybe i'll try to get a pattern written down, if anybody would be interested.

Edited to add: I put the pattern up on Ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/red-vines-mitts

153  Grey/Mustard Mittens in Knitting: Completed Projects by bananaleg on: January 26, 2012 12:30:44 AM

We recently had a bit of a snowstorm here in Washington, and I needed wanted a pair of mittens.

Like many people on the interwebs, I've realized I'm really liking grey and yellow together. Lucky for me, I had some of each in Loops & Threads Cozy Wool.

I must have missed my notification because i have to play catch-up again!

nisforneville, the toddler afghan looks wonderful! I kind of like it without a border, but if you want to use up more yarn, it couldn't hurt. Aw! The owl hat is adorable!

Brackish, loving the smash book! Great colors for the cozy.

michelleandbean, i love Teesha Moore, and your pillows are awesome.

apm, the delicious/yum and cupcake combo made me laugh. Perfect. And of course it is super cute on you.

hgddm, i have to tell you, i don't do much with jewelry or beads, but i do love a big bowl of beads and buttons and the like... It's a good thing i can't reach through my screen and yoink it.

supertink, what a cute dress!

LaughingLark, i like the way your afghan looked before. Too bad it was too long.
And i was just watching that video on how to make a scoodie the other day!

that1girl, pretty skirt!

MeganCrafts, awesome Star Wars skirt!

Antidigger, i am digging the hyperbolic plane.

cloudsnapper, that is a cute doll dress.

jfer, great skirt!

MiLady, great iPad case. And awesome blanket!! That baby stuff is so cute!!

Gomerriffic, love the socks. I can tell your blanket is going to look really cool!

I made myself another pair of slippers. But the yarn wasn't from stash. Well, some of it was, and the buttons were from stash... but i won't post a photo. You can check out their own post, though. Smiley

My aunt has been wearing some things i've knit for her to work, and her coworker always comments on how she loves everything. She ordered a cowl from me and a pair of fingerless mitts. The cowl was not from stash, but the mitts were. The only photos i got were pretty glare-y...

156  Scarecrow Mary Jane Slippers in Crochet: Completed Projects by bananaleg on: January 20, 2012 11:58:47 AM

My niece and i are currently obsessed with Wizarboz (or i guess you could call it Wizard of Oz). It is our movie. Every time she comes over, she'll ask me oh so sweetly, "Can we watch Wizarboz...?"

Yes, WeeWee, we can watch Wizarboz.

I made myself a pair of slippers on New Year's Eve called my new year new slippers. But i hate them. They don't fit right. And i want to start making Wizarboz-inspired things, so i made myself a new pair of better-fitting slippers that don't want to fall off... in colors inspired by Scarecrow. My favorite.

If you'd care to read a little more about it, you can check out my tumblr post.

Thanks for looking!

I received from Velvet Rose. She claimed me for roving, and i told her i love colors inspired by rain/water/clouds, etc.
And just look at what she sent.

Seriously, look how gorgeous they are!

Thank you so much, Velvet Rose! I can't wait to finally start spinning!

158  Snowflakes! in Crochet: Completed Projects by bananaleg on: January 06, 2012 05:20:23 PM
I needed to find something to make my friend for Christmas that would be cute, but not add a bunch of stress to my already full plate. She likes snowflakes, so i decided a nice, easy snowflake garland would be perfect.

For the first 4 snowflakes (the ones in the middle), i used this pattern: http://www.mockingbirdhillcottage.com/2011/11/crochet-snowflake-garland.html
But i changed it so it would have 6 points, like a snowflake, rather than 7.

Then i came up with my own.

I am no pattern writer, these are just my notes... So, if it doesn't make any sense (very likely), let me know, and i'll do my best to explain it.

Top row of snowflakes:
ch 6, sl to join
ch 3 (acts as first dc), dc, ch1, *2dc, ch1* until there are 12 stitches, sl to join
*ch2, dc ch4, sl tbl of first chain, ch2, sl next stitch* rep around

Bottom row:
ch 9, sl to join
ch 3 (first dc), 17dc, sl to join
ch 7, sl tbl of 2nd chain, 3sc, *ch6 sl tbl of first chain, 3sc* repeat ** to end, sl to join

If anybody tries these out, please show me! I'd love to see them!

do any of you use anything for you hands when they hurt from crafting... eesh im only 25 and already need a brace  Undecided

I have that problem too.  I crocheted for maybe a half hour last night and my hands were starting to hurt.  I think I may need to invest in some ergonomic hooks.
I've noticed that my thumb feels the same way after a long day of crafting as it does after i've been on my phone for a while... and i found exercises for "texting thumb" that have actually really helped me. Haha. It sounds silly, but my hand really feels better after i've done them.
http://solomonsseal.wordpress.com/2010/02/12/healing-texting-thumb-and-repetitive-stress-injuries-rsi-with-solomon%E2%80%99s-seal/

Might not be what you were looking for, but it might help nonetheless.

I tend to not stick to the themes, but i think i might actually give it a shot this year...
So, here's my for me. I call them my new year new slippers.

I used buttons i got in a swap last year. Smiley
I'm not totally satisfied with them. I'd like to make a pair in wool, or some other natural fiber, soon and compare them.

White (i actually finished this late in 2011, but i didn't post in the 2011 destash-along, so i figure it wouldn't hurt to post here):

After i took this, i crocheted all of the snowflakes onto a chain to make my friend a snowflake garland or bunting.

And a headband because i keep seeing them all over the interwebs, and i'm sure i'll be able to find a home for it.

CLM -- I adore the paper airplane shirt. So fun! I would totally wear one.

always, I love that your mod sisters are in your will. You are what I love about craftster.

My partner has received, so I get to post what I made for the tiny stuffie swap:

Last summer, I collected some sand and shells from Tunnels Beach on Kaua'i with plans to make something for my sister and my mom. I finally used some of it to make a little message in a bottle ornament, using some torn-up paper bag and jewelry wire.

The next one is a bag from an old t-shirt and some Disney princess flannel I've had forever. I painted "if there's a gut, I'm okay with it." on it, and my niece helped me by painting my name (she doesn't know how to write yet, so only I understand it. Smiley

It's an in joke with my friends, and it just needed to be put on something.

Lastly, a felt mustache. I used to make these all the time because I just love mustaches. For November, I decided to put them on my etsy and donate any money I make to Movember.
I've sold two, and a woman has asked to order six for her coworkers. They work with adults who struggle with severe mental illness, and sometimes they need a laugh.
Ah, I just love things like this! I get to bust some stash making some 'staches, and bring smiles to people's faces.
