I thought about making purses, too.
The skirts are too small for me to wear now, so I wouldn't be able to make them shorter or longer but thanks for the idea anyway.
I don't know what to do with the shirts though. Maybe purses, too?

Ok...so I have this long jean skirt that I grew out of but I didn't just want to throw it away. I'm taking the spring semester and thought that instead of carrying a bookbag (or my flimsy cottom tote bag which would break with even 1 of my books in it ) around on hot summer days (even though here we get about 2 nice days a year. lol) that I would try to make a tote bag. I really want to try to make one out of the skirt. The problem is...I don't really know where to start. I'm a beginner, so nothing TOO complicated. If someone could help me get started, that'd be great .

I thought the same thing - PERFECT for over a pair of jeans. Your husband is wrong . I wish I could even attempt to make something like that.
