3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Every Good Pigeon Deserves Arms on: July 24, 2015 10:57:38 PM

This is actually a re-do of some art I made YEARS ago. My style has changed and my art sills have improved, so I wanted to recreate this piece. I really love how it turned out. It started with the idea that pigeons looked like birds in suits and looked weird to me without arms, so I wanted to make a pigeon with arms... and so I made a pigeon a Hindu god! Cheesy

Watercolor, crayon, acrylic paint and prismacolor marker.
4  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Mr. Raptor's Neighborhood on: July 20, 2015 01:21:58 AM

So, my best friend since middle school likes raptors. She used to chase me around making raptor noises. Sadly, she says she can't make a raptor noise anymore... but she still loves them. I decided to try my hand at drawing a raptor for her. I've never tried drawing a dinosaur before, and she's quite the expert. I was just going to put him a suit, but then I thought, "Why not put him in a Mr. Rogers sweater?" and thus he was born.

Watercolor, crayon and sharpie.
5  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Totoro on: July 17, 2015 01:16:32 PM

I made this for one of my long-time friends! I can't wait for her to receive it! I normally add crayon on top of my watercolored art, but this time, I just left it as-is. Cheesy

I made this stationery to write a letter to one of my pen pals. I really like the way it turned out, and I hope she does too!

8  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Catman on: July 16, 2015 04:46:52 PM

This is most obviously inspired by Louis Wain's cats. I made this for a facebook buddy. I hope she likes it!

watercolor, crayon and sharpie! Cheesy
9  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / You've Got To Be Kind - Kurt Vonnegut on: July 10, 2015 02:03:23 PM
I made this for a facebook friend who also loves Vonnegut as much as I do! It's watercolor, crayon and sharpie.

This is the original drawing I did in a friend's notebook that had a page with a Vonnegut quote on it that my facebook friend really liked and requested her own!

I also made her one with pages from a damaged Cat's Cradle book. This is her photo of the both of them!

10  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Haunted Mansion Stretching Potrait - Alligator/Tightrope Girl - Daisy De La Cruz on: April 29, 2015 10:58:35 PM
So, I'm a big fan of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. I thought I would challenge myself to recreate my favorite painting in the stretching room.

These are the two photos I was looking at. I liked both the original Marc Davis design (right) and the design that is currently featured in the the Mansion (at Disneyland AND Magic Kingdom).

and here are a couple progress shots. It was very tricky to get the small details done on a 4X10 and with a fine-line (but not so-fine-line) sharpie.

Sadly, I have to re-make the original. I added crayon to it, like I do with most of my works, and the added saturation did NOTHING for the piece. It's okay, I don't mind light-boxing my own work to make corrections. :3
