I made this FSM for my dear old dad. He sits atop the printer at his computer desk.







I took notes as I went, and have composed a pattern!

Flying Spaghetti Monster Crochet Pattern:

Materials:

3.25mm hook (or preferred size)
1 ball noodle yarn
1 ball meatball yarn
2 Craft eyes
Polyester fiberfill
16 gauge jewelry wire
Yarn needle

The FMS is comprised of the following parts: noodles, posable noodle eyes, and a pair of meatballs attached to a noodle-colored foundation piece.

Beginning with the left meatball: (make one)

Rnd 1: With meatball yarn, ch 2, sc 6 in 2nd ch from hook (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around (12)
Rnd 3: [sc 1, 2 sc in next st] around (18)
Rnd 4: [sc 1 in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] around (24)
Rnd 5: [sc 1 in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st] around (30)
Rnds 6-11: sc around (30)
Rnd 12: [sc 1 in next 3 sts, sc2tog] around (24)
Rnd 13: [sc 1 in next 2 sts, sc2tog] around (18)
Rnd 14: sc around (18)
FO, leaving a short tail for weaving in
Add stuffing

Noodle Foundation: (make one)

Now, this part is worked directly from whence the first meatball piece left off. Simply change colors from your meatball yarn to your noodle yarn and continue in the round until the piece is as wide as you want your two meatballs to be apart from each other.

Rnds 1-15: sc around (18)

Right Meatball: (make one)

Rnd 1: With meatball yarn, ch 2, sc 6 in 2nd ch from hook (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around (12)
Rnd 3: [sc 1, 2 sc in next st] around (18)
Rnd 4: [sc 1 in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] around (24)
Rnd 5: [sc 1 in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st] around (30)
Rnds 6-11: sc around (30)
Rnd 12: [sc 1 in next 3 sts, sc2tog] around (24)
Rnd 13: [sc 1 in next 2 sts, sc2tog] around (18)
Rnd 14: sc around (18)
FO, leaving a long tail for sewing meatball to noodle foundation piece
Add stuffing


Noodles: (make approximately four)

Rnd 1: With noodle yarn, ch 2, sc 5 in 2nd ch from hook (5)
Rnds 2-?: sc around until noodle reaches approximately 20 inches in length(5)
FO, weave in tail

Posable Noodly Eyes: (make one)

Rnd 1: With noodle yarn, ch 2, sc 5 in 2nd ch from hook (5)
Rnds 2-?: sc around until appendage reaches approximately 25 inches in length (5)
FO, weave in tail.
Cut a piece of 16ga jewelry wire the length of the appendage. Fold the ends of the wire down an inch to form a blunt tip. Insert wire into eye stalk. Glue craft eyes to each end of the piece.

Assembly

Attach right meatball to the open end of the noodle foundation with the yarn needle, adding stuffing as needed. Sew noodles onto noodle foundation piece, using images of FSM as a guide for noodle placement. Be sure to leave two noodly appendages dangling (or propped up with more craft wire), so that others may be touched by these appendages. Sew the posable noodly eye stalks to the work, according to the images of FSM.

This piece was inspired by the merchandise over at www.iheartguts.com. They make happy little anatomy plushies in all sorts of fun colors.









I used this free egg pattern from crochetspot for the ovary, and made up the fallopian tube as I went. It took just over an hour to complete.

Here is the pattern:

Materials: Scraps of Yarn A and Yarn B, tapestry needle, polyester fiberfil, black embroidery floss, 12mm child safety eyes

Using a 3.75mm hook and worsted yarn, begin at the base of the fallopian tube.

Rnd 1: With A, Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Rnds 2 - approx. 18: sc around until tube reaches desired length. Remember to stuff periodically every inch or so.
Rnd approx. 18 (pedal round): *sc in next st, sl st in next st then ch 3 and work 4 tr in same st*. Rep from * 3 times. After the last treble st of the third completed pedal, sl into the first ch 3 of the beginning pedal to close it off. FO, leaving a tail for sewing the tube to the ovary.

Ovary, with B (copy pasted from link above):

Round 1: ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook, place marker: 6 sc
Round 2: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) around: 9 sc
Round 3: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) around: 12 sc
Round 4: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) around: 15 sc
Round 5: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) 3 times, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc: 19 sc
Round 6: sc in each sc around: 19 sc
Round 7: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc) 2 times, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc: 22 sc
Round 8 – 10: sc in each sc around: 22 sc
Round 11: (decrease, sc in next 6 sc) 2 times, decrease, sc in next 4 sc: 19 sc
Note: Fill egg with fiberfill while decreasing. [And don't forget to add the eyes and embroider the smiley.]
Round 12: (decrease, sc in next 2 sc) 4 times, decrease, sc in next sc: 14 sc
Round 13: decrease in each sc around: 7 sc
Finish off, weaving egg shut.

This is the first purse I have ever made in my short life! It's far from perfect, but I'm still so proud of myself.

I used the well-known Buttercup Pattern by Rae. I was very intimidated by sewing the outer purse upper piece to the pleated lower piece because of the curve. Thus, a half-completed bag sat on my sewing table for precisely six days before I stumbled upon this lovely tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cs2BGhY9KVY&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL. That was all the help and inspiration I needed to get finished. I didn't execute it perfectly, but that's typical of my first times with any pattern as I am strictly a youtube-taught sewer.

I didn't adjust the size of the pattern, but I did omit the button embellishment in the center. I also altered the pleats to suit my personal preference, and added 3/4" square rings to the straps.

I totally botched one small section of the opening rim of the purse, and had to improvise to cover it up since loathe ripping seams. This is why the punk pins are positioned off to one side:

Next time, I will definitely topstitch along the purse upper pieces, and add a thicker interfacing to the strap. I'll also make sure that the shape of the lining matches that of the outer fabric if I decide to alter the pleats again. I now know what NOT to do, and am delighted to know for certain that my wallet, cosmic bag of basic necessities, and phone all fit snugly without altering the size of the pattern.
