My boyfriend brought me to the Kansas City Renaissance Festival for my birthday because he's fancy-sweet like that. Also he let me dress him up! Fitting was a bit of an issue since he lives about four hours away from me, but the only thing that really needed his torso was the doublet. I ended up sewing it all up, then pinning it before we left my house and taking it in by hand on the way to KC.
Ren Fest Costumes by crafty_goldfish, on Flickr Everything is made from second-hand and stashed fabrics/notions. The only thing I bought was half a yard of broadcloth to edge my bodice with and a roll of orange and black striped ribbon to lace us up.
Dashing. by crafty_goldfish, on Flickr His doublet is made from a thrifted flannel sheet, stashed red braided trim, and lined with plaid fabric from my mother's stash. The pattern is Simplicity 4059, but I drafted a different peplum. We found the linen-look blend for the shirt at a thrift store in the middle of nowhere for fifty cents. It's from the Pirates of the Caribbean pattern Simplicity put out, 4923. The pants are made from an old curtain, I drafted the pattern from a pair of sweatpants. He made his mocassins and bracers (Isn't he awesome!?).
Renaissance Festival '11 by crafty_goldfish, on Flickr My bodice is made from turquoise denim and lined with old jeans. The pattern is Simplicity 3809. The shirt came from a thrift store and I deruffled it. I made the skirt with the help of DawnPages, http://www.reddawn.net/costume/skirt.htm from stashed cotton. I'm wearing a 15 yard skirt from my belly dancing outfit underneath it for maximum swoosh factor. My sandals are Native Earth Sedonas.
I'm not a hundred percent happy with the costumes, but we had a great time and I can't wait for next year!
So I don't know if you all know this, but the last Harry Potter movie came out this summer. I had to dress up/see the movie at midnight/hang out with the other Pottards. I knit a vest, borrowed my dad's shirt, and stole a pleated skirt & glasses from my Daria costume. It's knit from Caron Country in Charcoal, Claret, and Gilded Age. The patch is from Amazon. I used the sweater pattern from the "Charmed Knit" book, but altered it to be a vest as it was summer and I was a little pressed for time. I slapped on a bridal petticoat, more makeup than would be on my face in a month, and stomped out into the wastelands with my mother. I was trying to maintain my fierce throughout the shoot, so excuse the sass-face. Biochic made so many wonderful things! She was a fantastic partner! Here's the pictures.
Scum. by crafty_goldfish, on Flickr I had a failed attempt at a faux hawk. However, the synth dreads blend in fantastically with my natural hair color! I love them!
Back of the Goggles by crafty_goldfish, on Flickr The goggles are fancy-dancy. There's studs and (I think) real leather all over them. Biochic used washers in a great way, they are even on the closure in the back.
Goggles by crafty_goldfish, on Flickr So very very cool. Note the mouse skull and crossbones on the necklace (so clever!!!).
Cameo by crafty_goldfish, on Flickr A shot of the cameo (which my co-workers love!), the earrings and a bit of the necklace. You can see a peek of the dreads too! I love em!
Outfit by crafty_goldfish, on Flickr Thank you so much Biochic! I am thoroughly enamored with everything!
It was too hot to wear a wig, so she just wore clip-in extensions. Also, I made the Death Eater mask and knit my own freaking vest! HP Premiere by crafty_goldfish, on Flickr
Sorry to double-post, ladies, but I figured out how to download pictures onto my new computer. Here's a preview shot of all the wonderful loot Biochic sent me! She made so much cool swag! Look it! Apocalypse Swap by crafty_goldfish, on Flickr
Some swanky hankies, a fascinator, a mouse skull locket, synthetic dreads (!!!), bullet casing feather earrings (OMG), and sweet goggles (AUGH!)!!!
I am going to show my nerdy-ass stripes here. Has anyone seen "the Tribe"? It's a New Zealand children's soap opera about all the adults dying and the kids fending for themselves. Everyone has fantastic dye jobs and facial make-up and clothes. It basically ruined my teenage fashion years. It's real fancy, obviously. Also, no fair calling dibs, Krafty!
So I received from Alchamy513, and it's all wonderful! You might want to stretch out your wisting/pinning fingers for this stuff!
First, a group shot: Group Shot by crafty_goldfish, on Flickr Necklaces abound, as do Cockroach Clusters (not pictured, but delicious). There’s a fantastic Monster Bag of Monsters! I’m going to try to get a better shot of it on a body tonight, but it’s wonderful and roomy. Crocheted with nubbly yarn and lots of fangs for chomping on the fingers of people who try to get at my Cockroach Clusters or tissues without permission.
Let’s get to the glamour shots, shall we?

Here are a few more pictures of what I sent Alchamy. I was really proud of this package and can't wait to see what else is in store! Alchamy, I'd love to see a pic of you wearing the Knut Knecklace (see what I did there?).
First, the Weasley Wizard Wheezes package; Pygmy Puff, Sea Salted Butterbeer Caramels and Blood Lollies: 'Puff and Goodies by crafty_goldfish, on Flickr
And finally, Neville's Package. I took a lot of pictures of the necklace, it was pretty hard to photograph. It's supposed to be a Dumbledore's Army Knut, converted into a necklace with a Remembrall charm to keep her from losing it. Alchamy didn't have a set length she liked, other than "longish," so the length of the necklace is adjustable and it is about 30" at its longest. Anyway, Alchamy was a hoot and a holler to craft for.
Hey ladies (also Wulf), I had a performance last Friday and wanted to show off my kickass hat. Here's my outfit: Have you seen this hat!? by crafty_goldfish, on Flickr
It was hella fun and so nice to have some handcrafted things to wear!
