1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Not a purse, not a diaper bag. My in between bag! on: July 30, 2009 12:46:13 PM
I have a 4yo and a 1yo, both who require 'stuff' when we go out. Not as much stuff as when my youngest was a newborn, so I don't need a big diaper bag anymore. But more stuff then will fit in my little day to day purse. So what's a mom to do?

Make an inbetween bag! I used this awesome tutorial, and I love love love my new bag. It fits all the things I need to carry (diaper change kit, drinks, snacks, my stuff, some toys, plus the little bit of stuff I carry. I added four inner pockets (one is for my cell phone) and a key ring so my key's don't just fall to the bottom. It's a magnetic snap so it's easy for me to just reach in and grab something. The strap fits comfortably over my shoulder so that I can have my hands free.

I used some lightweight fusible interfacing to give it a little structure/body without making it stiff. The strap I basically just made a wide binding strip instead of turning a tube (so much easier). I used about 3/4m for the outer, so with the leftovers I'm thinking of making a matching zipper pouch and tissue holder, etc.

Love my new bag!

2  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Bath salts question on: March 09, 2009 09:40:04 PM
I have just started to enjoy taking baths, I've always been a shower gal. I have some epsom salts that I really like to add to the bath. But I also have some Burts Bees Apricot Oil that I used on my baby. Can I add some of that to the salts to make it smell nice? Is it something I can make in a bigger batch and then just use a portion of when I have a bath? I don't want to waste the oil if it doesn't work. Thanks!
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Adding outside pockets on: March 02, 2009 09:44:09 PM
I've seen some great lined zipper pouches that have a pocket on the outside. Is there some tips or instructions on how to do this? I'm not having any luck with the search. Thanks!
4  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Play pants on: May 10, 2007 07:46:05 PM
I made a pair of play pants for ds after not being able to find anything plain enough or cheap enough for the wear and tear my boy puts on his play clothes. I used this tutorial ( http://www.rookiemoms.com/make-some-easy-kids-pants/ ) which I think I got from a post here, and a pair of his pajama bottoms for a template. I cut up an old pair of pajama bottoms that my hubby passed to me, that I passed to my 'recycle drawer'. Also, they took next to no time at all to make. They're lightweight and should be great for playing outside! And they fit nicely over his cloth diaper butt. They're slightly big, but hopefully will last him a little longer. The only thing else is I want to reinforce the knees, I think I'll just sew on some patches from an old sweatshirt or something. I can't wait to make him more!

5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Fly trap ideas? on: May 31, 2006 10:00:32 PM
My husband, son and I just moved into a very old house on a farm. We get a ton of flies in the house, every time we open the front door, they all swarm in. The people who used to live here left up those ugly hanging fly paper traps, but I hate them! Nothing beats washing the dishes while staring at a strip of yellow tacky paper with dead or dying flies stuck all over it (can you feel my sarcasm?).

Does anyone have any ingenious ideas on how to trap these flies with something that looks nice? Or at least doesn't look like a fly trap? Thanks!
