1  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Impishly Cute String Dolls on: September 27, 2010 05:41:43 PM
Hello all! Loving everyone's Halloween projects. I've been making Thai string dolls for the past couple of months and thought now would be a great time to share my tutorial, as we are heading into the ghoul season.  Colorful, impish and oh-so-cute, these little string doll guys make the perfect Halloween DIY project and present for teens and adults.
As you may already know, authentic Thai string dolls are handcrafted toys made from one continuous cotton string. The original Thai string dolls are quite challenging to make (lots of pins and potential unraveling), so I adapted this project into a easy to follow tutorial that captures the look without the headache.
The best part of making string dolls is that you can make virtually any little creature you want, be it from your imagination or one of your favorite characters. Dressing them is a ton of fun too. Small details really make these guys unique, so it's a great way to utilize all your left over beads, buttons, felt and other small objects.

You can find the full tutorial here: http://www.the4yablog.com/2010/09/thai-string-dolls-tutorial.html

Considering they never made merch for Calvin and Hobbes, this is truly a great plush to behold. So cute!

This is so rad! Wonder if you could sew in a cheap speaker and hook up an ipod to play some classic 'tendo chiptunes.

This is such a great party decoration! Wish I wasn't scared to sew fur. I always seem to make a mess of it.

9  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Re: Painted Day of the Dead Skulls on: September 27, 2010 05:28:44 PM
I thought these skulls from Oriental Trading could work too, if you prime them first. I bet these would male an amazing Halloween party decoration if you painted them with neon blacklight paint. http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/browse/processRequest.do?demandPrefix=12&sku=70/1653&mode=Searching&erec=3&D=foam+skull&Ntx=mode%2bmatchallpartial&Ntk=all&requestURI=processProductsCatalog&N=0&y=0&Ntt=foam+skull&Dx=mode%2bmatchallpartial&x=0&sd=Skulls

He has the bone structure to carry it off too. Probably don't want to take him out dressed like that to a mall on a Friday night anytime soon. lol. Great job!
