141  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re:Cut out materials for purses? on: February 27, 2004 06:27:46 AM
Felt gets all pilly when it rubs against stuff, and it's a nightmare when you wash it with other stuff (in a washing machine).  You can pick the pills off.

That said, I use it a lot.  I usually wash it in hot water before I sew it to something else, though.  You never know how it's going to react, and I'd rather have it shrink down before I sew it on than afterwards.

Are you talking about the ruffle part?

If I were trying to make this, I'd fold in the pleats and pin them with a million pins.  I'd iron them down hard before I tried to sew over them.  And I'd invest in a couple of extra heavy-duty needles because I know I'd break some.

I love that skirt!

That looks great!  Good work.

Xanthia, if you knit in the round, changing colors is easy.  You don't have to twist the threads around in the back or anything.  Give it a try some time.  You'll be surprised how easy it is.

Two separate projects, one post.

The first is a hat I just finished.  The yarn was scraps from other projects.

The second is a scarf knit from Bernat eyelash.  It's very soft, a little shiny in the sun, and I just love the colors.  Tastes great, too.

I got two lengths of fabric today to make some for me.  It's in the washer right now, so I can probably work on the after dinner.  Woohoo!

That's gorgeous!

What type of interfacing did you use?  Was it heavyweight?  I'm pretty clueless when it comes to interfacing.

That is one cool bag!  It looks so mysterious.  You did a wonderful job!

Was the red fabric hard to find?

I don't have any instructions for you, but I have to tell you that I liked those pants so much I dreamed about them last night!

I didn't dream their correct construction, though --  I dreamed I was trying to put some on and there was only a front and no back.
