131  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re:deco swap - 5 participants needed on: March 12, 2004 05:39:42 AM
I don't mind mailing to Sweden, either -- if you don't mind mailing to the US!

Unless you're mailing to certain parts of Africa, mail goes pretty quickly just about anywhere these days.  I only mention Africa because I have friends in Uganda and Tanzania, and it takes things more than a month on average to get there.
132  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re:stripey sweater on: March 11, 2004 10:02:30 AM
Slick, that looks great!

I love knitting in the round.  I hate finishing, so knitting in the round is the way to go for me.  I'd rather cut a steek than sew a seam anytime.

Congrats on a gorgeous sweater.
133  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re:embroidered anchor changepurse & wristbands on: March 11, 2004 05:56:17 AM
Those are great!  I'll have to try the snap thing, too.
I'd love to participate!

136  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re:creative halloween costumes on: February 28, 2004 07:05:39 AM
I can barely sew, but managed to pull together two pirate costumes.  For my daughter, we used checked pants, a white turtleneck, black boots, and a scarf that she already had.  I bought a women's vest from the thrift store and pinned back the armholes, making a pleat in the back (to draw in the fullness).  I sewed straight down what I'd pinned, and it ended up looking like a frock coat.  I also made her a little neck ruffle from some old sheets and a cape from a yard of flannel.

She insisted that our new baby be a pirate, too.  I made his shirt and pants from $1 bargain bin fabric.  I made a regular stocking-type cap for him and then tacked on a Captain Crunch style brim and glued on a felt skull and bones.  It needed trim, so I used cheezy-looking fabric paint.

137  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Re:Craftster on the brain... on: February 27, 2004 06:41:18 AM
I've mentioned the site to a few people and usually get blank looks (unless I'm talking to a creative friend).  There are those who like to make stuff and those who don't (and can't understand why you wouldn't just buy something mass-produced).

I'm always thinking of stuff to make or do, and just don't have enough hours in the day.  I'm so glad this forum is here -- at least I know I'm not the only one who lives to make stuff!
138  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Re:how did you find craftster? on: February 27, 2004 06:37:28 AM
I found a link on someone's livejournal site, but I can't remember whose.  Whoever you are, thank you!

And thank you, Leah!

140  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re:first pair of mitten a success!! on: February 27, 2004 06:34:07 AM
Those are great mittens -- you'd never know they were your first pair.  Wow!

Can't wait to hear about the magic loop method.
