1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Skunk and a Panda Bear on: November 03, 2010 12:42:17 PM
I made my costume first (in a hurry!) from a black hoodie dress and some fake fur (on sale!). It cost me about $10 to make (since I already had the hoodie - wore it all winter last year). I got the idea from here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=324788.0

I won the costume contest at my office last Friday. I used plastic grocery bags to stuff the tail which made it really light - I didn't get a chance to take a photo of the tail, though.

I made my boyfriend's hat using the leftover fur. You can't tell in the picture, but it has black ears. I also made him some mittens with scraps of fur. He didn't decide until about 4 hours before we were going out what he wanted to be. I wish we had more pictures, but this was a picture that was taken at the bar by a friend. Smiley

I'm on my work computer and so I can't edit the photo at all, thus the horrible redeye. Sad Sorry!!!

I'm too new to post pictures, so I posted the link to the picture. I used to have an account here a few years ago, but I forgot the password.
2  Texas / Texas: Central / Good thrifting in Austin, Texas? on: November 03, 2010 08:10:51 AM
Please let me know if this isn't appropriate to post here - I tend to get my crafty items from thrift stores because i am poor frugal.

I'm driving down to Austin from Dallas this weekend for Fun Fun Fun Fest. I'm hoping to sneak away from my friends for a couple of hours in hope of finding a gigantic thrift store. Surely there must be one? Austinites, any suggestions? I vaguely remember seeing one off of Hwy 35 in North Austin when I was driving by - kind of near the Target - but I could be way off.

Of course I will google this question as well, but I was hoping there might be an Austin native with a secret or two!
