1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Discussion and Questions / Might be a silly question.. [embroidery machine vs. regular sewing machine] on: January 17, 2006 06:21:49 AM
Okay, so I'm just doing some research for my A Level Art, and I'm studying the textiles artist Sue Rangeley www.suerangeley.co.uk. In the information she's sent me, she talks a lot of machine embriodery, which she uses to effetively "edge" her applique designs. She describes using an embroidery hoop with layers of stretched organza to effectively 'draw' out the shapes of her designs using straight and zig zag stitches. I was just wondering how/if this would be possible to do on a regular machine or whether it should be done on a proper CAD/CAM embroidery machine, I have access to both, and I was just wanting to find out the advantages and disadvantages of each, and which would be most successful and give me the most versitility in my own designs.

Thank you for any help/advice you can give me, it is so appreciated, I'm so confused!
2  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Discussion and Questions / Smart Fabrics. on: June 21, 2005 09:51:29 AM
I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about Smart Fabrics, or Intelligent Fabrics? Google isn't getting me very far. I have to design dressing up clothes for Children and incorporate Smart Fabrics into the design, to make it either more practical or more appealing.

Does anyone know of any smart fabrics or have any ideas on how I could incorporate them into childrens clothing?
3  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / A question about a dress.. now with pictures. on: May 24, 2005 09:25:54 AM
I'm still kinda new to Craftster, so I hope that this is the right board.

I was just wondering if you could help me. I've fallen in love with the dress in the My Chemical Romance video for Helena, I'm seeing it in green or gold or something equally pretty. However, I can't seem to find a pattern like it, so I was wondering if you could help. I'm trying to get a screenshot, but my computer is being damn annoying. If anyone has seen the video and has any suggestions for a pattern, I would really appreciate it until I can find a screenshot.

Thanks.

EDIT: That's the best that I can do I'm afraid. I just kinda need an idea for a pattern, I can modify, that's not a problem, I just can't find anything close to it.
4  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / Any ideas for surfaces? on: March 09, 2005 08:25:37 AM
For my art exam, I plan to do a huge painting, well I say huge, about 1m square. The only problem is, I have no idea what surface to paint it on to. I can't afford a canvas that size, and paper and card might be a little too thin. I plan to use acrylics/oil paints, so I need a surface that will be okay with that, any ideas?

Thanks.
