I love these so much that I ran out to the dollar store and bought 3! My sister and her 2 daughters all sew. My youngest niece is a tattoo artist and has different colored hair each month. She has lots of piercings and tattoos too. The one I made for her, I used rub ons for her "tattoos". Here are my versions...

There is such a thing as clear gesso. I've never used it but I seem to be seeing it used more and more and I'm tempted to get some. As for the white gesso...i usually thin it down with water and use it over paper to tone down the colors. It gives it a kind of milky, transparent look. I use it a lot. I like the look of it. Fool around with mixing it with water. I love the results.

I use Golden Gel Medium (regular gel). It glues everything down! it can be spread over paper without harming it. its water proof & uv resistant. it can be thinned down also. i love doing the photo transfers into this stuff. using a ink jet print, lay a layer of the gel medium down and put your picture face down. then wait for several hours, spread water over it and roll the water around until the paper comes off and there you have a transfer. it will be in reverse. if i can figure out how to post a pic, i'll post one of a transfer.
if your looking for books on this stuff...do a search on claudine hellmuth. she has 2 excellent books for showing you how to make collages. she also has a group on yahoo.

I went to an old junk store and looked around for whatever I could use. I love doing collages. I found puzzle pieces, wooden letters, ribbon, lace, little playing cards. I also photocopy my old pictures and use them. I will color them in with waterpaints, crayons, color pencils and sharpies. I use paper from Michaels, old books, telephone books and sewing pattern paper. I look thru the bargain bins at Micchels or AC Moore. Anything that I can glue down, I nab it!
