11  Breakfast Pudding in Recipes and Cooking Tips by javaannie on: August 07, 2012 12:44:05 PM
A while back, I began finding recipes for raw chocolate pudding, made with avocado. I was intrigued and gave it a try. It was ok, but, as  I do, I started modifying it to suit my taste. Over time, it morphed into the recipe below. I must point out that I do not follow a raw food diet, so my changes to the original recipes are not strictly raw ingredients. I like to portion it into small mason jars and keep in the fridge for a quick, yummy breakfast. It's not exactly "health food" but it's filling and contains protein, omega-3 fatty acids, potassium, antioxidants and other good stuff. The batch I made for the photos is a double batch ...

Breakfast Pudding

1 medium, ripe avocado
1 medium, ripe banana
1/4 cup milk (I use 2%, but you can use any kind, even soy/almond/coconut)
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 Tbsp. raw honey
2 Tbsp. Nutella (optional)

If you have a decent blender, you can make it in there. My blender will not blend anything more solid than ice cream, so I use my immersion blender. Blend together the avocado, banana and milk until smooth. Add the cocoa powder, honey and Nutella and blend until combined, creamy and smooth. Portion in what ever kind of container or serving size you would like and chill for at least 1 hour.

As usual, I forgot to start taking pics until I was almost finished - argh! The first pic is the blended avocado, banana, milk and cocoa. As I mentioned earlier, I like to portion mine in small mason jars so I can grab and go. Enjoy!

Received yesterday from mountains and clouds for my coffee theme. Loving the cork background over the metallic base - very unique! And what a cool bonus, the card that came with it has a paper doll to cut-out. I've seen this guy around and wanted one of my own, now I have it! Thanks so much.

Received my steampunk ATC from Jennden today - love it!!

You can't tell in the pic, but it has a sparkly finish, but it isn't glittery.  Thanks, Jennden!

Oh. My. Dog. I received a package of awesomeness from Megancrafts today. Hope you have a tissue handy, cuz you'll be drooling over these! First this super-cute owl ...

Next, a vintage sewing machine - it's even threaded!

And, my absolute favorite, a retro babe with pie!

All of the stitches are so tiny and perfect and the detail is amazing. Thank you so much, Megancrafts, <3 them!

18  Re: Lets Get Foxy now show me your Hooters! Owl and Fox Swap Gallery in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by javaannie on: May 29, 2012 06:46:05 PM
I am in love with Whims. paintings, I REALLY want a copy of the one she did for the swap avatar!! I am so jealous of people who can draw/paint, because I am worthless at it. Even my stick people leave something to be desired  Tongue.

BTW - I saw someone comment about the towels I made for Whysteria being stitched, but I actually used the citrasolv transfer technique from the Graphics Fairy. It was my first time and the hardest part was finding the right kind of copier/printer (has to be carbon-based toner, not ink-based) to print the image. Then I sowed some black ribbon across the bottom. Here's a little clearer pic of how they turned out. I have to say I was very pleased with myself!

I received my package from Whysteria today!
There was a cute little crocheted owl that my daughter has already tried to swipe. There's a bright and cheery owl and a sooo cute little fox. It looks like he lost an ear in transit, but I'm sure I can patch him up. There's drawing of an owl and a cockatiel, which I have 2 of and the drawing looks like our male, Lolo, who is quite the loverboy. Then there is a bracelet with beads that have birds on them. I tried to get a better pic, still not sure if you'll be able to see them. And my favorite, 2 owl charms. The winking one cracks me up. I need some of these without the hooks to go on/in some of the altered houses I'm working on, they would be perfect!

Thanks so much Whysteria!

20  Little love nest in CHALLENGE 64 ENTRIES by javaannie on: July 09, 2011 10:17:58 AM
Ok, this is my first submission, so I'm not sure what kind of info to give. I've always had a fondness for 3-D collage pieces so I decided to try one of my own. I wanted the piece to have an intimate feel, as if you had just stumbled upon this little world. Please excuse the cell-phone photography.

Exterior - I started with a small, unfinished wooden box. It originally had a cutout with a mesh insert. I removed the mesh for later use and painted the box with copper-colored paint and then mixed up some blue-green to create a verdigris patina effect. The top and bottom mantel pieces are actually a paint-stir stick cut in half. The home sweet home text is in a label plate painted gold.

Interior - the back wall is layered with some collage paper and a gold leaf-rubbed heart ornament. I then took the mesh insert, distressed it, and attached the word beads you & me, I aged the beads with some brown ink. The birds are layered scrapbook embellishments.

The nest This part was very experimental, trial & error and really messy. I made a paste using reindeer moss, bits of raffia and Elmers glue. I molded the paste into the bottom of a condiment bowl, using the back of a spoon. It was taking forever to dry (a few days, actually) so, once it could hold its form, I carefully popped it out so that the air could get to the bottom of it.

The egg I started with a raw egg, on which I drew the shape and size that I wanted removed, then scored it with a very sharp Exacto knife. The scored area comes out with a little coaxing, then I washed out the shell, made the hubby some scrambled eggs and painted the outside of the shell robins egg blue. I painted the inside and the edges gold. I cut the text paper to fit inside (used a piece of cork behind it to give dimension). Added some more moss, and nestled the jewelry charm inside (it started with a silver frame that I painted gold).

Sorry to be so long-winded, and thanks for letting me share!
