241  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / PikPik Panda in Jute and Acrylic on: September 19, 2010 11:36:13 AM
I've been experimenting with materials other than yarn, and I was drawn to the texture of jute rope.  I used magic circles as the basis for PikPik's head and body.  His limbs, ears and face are all from worsted weight acrylic yarn.  He's not stuffed with anything but the strands of yarn, and the jute is sturdy enough to maintain PikPik's shape.

246  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Gutting My Sons' Closets 1 on: September 19, 2010 10:21:48 AM
This is the first up-cycled doll I made after trying to de-clutter my two sons' closets.  He was once a size-medium boy's shirt. Most of his life was spent in the closet, and a few appearances in school pictures. He's made more appearances in this new form than he did in his previous life. I named him Che-kee, from the brand, Cherokee.  Che-kee can easily transform himself by unbuttoning and re-positioning his ears.  Part of his mystery is in figuring out what his parts used to be.

Now, off to find another shirt from the depths of a dark closet....
