41  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: teen librarian needs crafts! on: July 03, 2006 12:21:40 PM
I'd like to revive this topic as I am in the same position... What other types of crafts would teens be interested in learning in a library setting? We're especially trying to get more boys in our programs, but this has proven to be rather difficult. I thought of doing a hemp/macrame workshop, but I don't know how popular that is right now. Duct tape is being done this summer, but still no boys. Any other ideas from all of you brilliant teenage craftsters?
42  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Re: Painting cheapo bookshelves? on: July 02, 2006 07:46:19 PM
Thanks for the tips! I definitely would not have used primer first, so I'm glad I asked. Contact paper is also an interesting solution--though I don't know much about that either. Where can I get it in large amounts and does it come in pretty colors? Smiley
43  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Painting cheapo bookshelves? on: July 02, 2006 09:57:17 AM
I've never painted anything before, and as much as I "research," nothing is quite simplified enough for me to understand. So, I come to you interior decorating experts for some help--I have these very cheap white bookshelves (I have no idea what they're made out of, but it's certainly not real wood), and I would like them to be another color.

Can I just paint right over them?
What kind of paint do I use?
Will the paint chip with all my books on there?
Do I need to put something on top of the paint to make it unchippable?

As you can see, I am utterly clueless when it comes to painting. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And here's a picture of what they kind of look like--it's not exact, but close enough.

Most everyone's feedback should be updated. If yours isn't and it should be, kindly let me know. My computer died, and I've had to work with whatever I could save at the time, which may not be up to date. Also, if you do not have a comment on your feedback, and you'd like one, let me know, and I'll see what I have saved. Oh and if you have multiple feedback entries, let me know so that I can get the mods to fix it--I'm not sure what I did wrong, but some went through twice. :/

Feedback has been updated for those in blue with stars. Once my sad little computer comes back from the doctor, I'll add comments. If you've sent/received and your color does not reflect the correct status, kindly let me know.

Yippee! I received from ultraviolet today! My book was Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson. Smiley She sent two beautifully embroidered pillowcases, purple pie magnets, and watercolors+paper for me to paint my own adventures. Smiley

Sorry the pictures don't do the embroidery justice--it really is quite amazing. Smiley

Haha, the fact that I don't embroider must have been very apparent when you saw the material then! I had no idea that I was using the wrong kind of material and therefore assumed that all embroidery would be just as difficult! My fingers were rather sore afterward but it was well worth it. (:  I'm excited for my package to arrive!

# of Flakers: 1

kiki_eks was promised a pin cushion. After many PMs back and forth, I have decided that this person has exhausted her crafting time and is a flaker. Here's kiki_eks' list from the swap. Since she was expecting a pin cushion, ideally, that is what you should craft. But if you could fulfill any of her other wishes, that would be okay too.

PM me (with "Uncon April Swap Angel for kiki_eks" in the subject line) to be an angel!

I am in Portland, OR * USA

-- PMC pendant with the words creative or artsy fartsy or crafty gal - something along that line

-- a pin cushion - maybe a cupcake, sushi roll (maki), spam sushi (nigiri style), dice

-- a stamp pendant (I even have a stamp/s  for maybe a double sided one - that i can send)

I've updated to the best of my knowledge. If you have sent/received and I have missed you, kindly PM me to let me know. The gallery is looking good. Don't be picture-shy, gals!  Wink

I'm so glad you like it all, ultraviolet! I have more pics of the book because I loved it so much and wanted to keep it for myself (so I chose to take lots and lots of pics in hopes of preserving its memory, lol).
