So we all know the biggest themes of the season - - Lady Gaga and Alice in Wonderland a la Tim Burton. I'm too curvy to be Gaga (comfortably), so I of course opted for Wonderland. But I wanted to do the old school cartoon we all fell in love with! I didn't wanna be Alice, she's too sweet to be sexy in most cases. Cheshire Cat sketches left WAY too many designs to choose from, and I was in a time crunch (had to finish by the 23rd for my 20th bday party!). So I chose the Queen of Hearts! Here's my final piece! ((Sorries for the blur and ugly face - -it was sooooo cold!!))
I made EVERY-STINKING-THING!! Except the necklace, but I did have to craftily fix a broken chain in the back. Even the boots, the seams were ripping so I had to sew them together, mostly by hand. BEHOLD!!
I wanted a short skirt, since I was wearing it to my bday party and wanted to feel sexy. I disliked the black/orange/yellow underskirt, as it was waaaay too heavy, so I got rid of it and replaced it with a light airy tutu I whipped up just before the party. The collar I made just looked funky, and the first white top I made got spilled on, so in all my pics I'm wearing this butterfly-sleeve type shirt dress I made the week before.
First I made the corset. Here are some in-progress shots. ((If anyone cares for a more detailed explanation on how to make one of your own, just say so!))

Then the skirt! I went for a burlesque victorian bustle (cuz the word 'burlesque' guarantees sexy!!). Again, if you want more specific instructions to make one of your own, just say so! Basically there's a simple waistband, to which I sewed four panels of varying width. The bottom one is over 2 yard long in total!! I made ruffles by cutting 5 yards of white fabric into 2-inch strips, hemming one edge and gathering the other by hand. I did the math - - it's well over 3000 inches of fabric when flat! Ruffled, it's 1080 inches! Just of ruffling!! So I made those and stitched them to the hems of each panel. There was a lot of sergeing and cleaning up on the skirt, loose threads and all. Here's the only two in-progress shots!
