1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Dumpster-diving swap? on: August 23, 2005 02:19:02 PM
I love crafting but don't want to create more stuff out of other stuff that require energy and resources to be produced, when there is so much great stuff being thrown away!  I make most of my crafts out of repurposed clothing or other items found in dumpsters or thrift stores.  I could blather on about the virtues of dumpster-diving, but instead i'd rather see if anyone else would be interested in this swap.  It could be so much fun!

YES?
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Naked ladies with gas masks tee-shirt on: February 22, 2005 07:28:41 AM
This is my first embroidery project ever (also my first posted project on craftster [be gentle]), and i think i've found a new craft to love (as if i needed another).  I made this tee-shirt for my wonderful friend, cole.  He's turning 18 in march and, not uniquely, he likes naked ladies, and i figured, who doesn't like gas masks?  I made the design by studying nude postcards from the twenties, and then decided that it would be very nice if i didn't have to embroider any hands.  That's why she's posed like that; plus it's kinda sexy.  I must have drawn 30 different gas masks before finding a design that translated well in embroidery.  This was difficult for me because usually when i draw, i don't use lines.  I usually avoid using lines and focus on the shadows, but i eventually figured it out.
I used the back stitch mostly, plus french knots and i don't know what it's called but i kind of wove the threads on the mouth piece of the gas mask.  So here it is...
