1  CRAFTSTER CRAFT CHALLENGES / CHALLENGE 86 ENTRIES / Teesha Moore 3 Ring Binder Cover of Geekery! on: May 07, 2013 07:54:46 AM
I crafted this bad boy up for Luckdragon in the IYP:20 Chillin' Cotillion Swap way back in the beginning of 2012.

A Teesha Moore 3 Ring Binder Cover of Geekery!

Front:
Back:

Opened for the Full Effect:

This was my first attempt at the Teesha Moore style and I LOVED it! It was so zen just throwing caution to the wind and stitching up...crazyness.
Also, all these nerderies I too have much love for. (I think I just channeled Yoda again...man, why does that keep on happening?  Wink)

Here are some thumbnails for close-ups:

1. The One Ring and Hunger Games (oh, that Haymitch!  Cheesy)
2. Better Off Dead and Harry Potter
3. Doctor Who and My Partner's Monogram
4. Psych and Torchwood
5. Firefly and Pirates of the Caribbean
6. Craftster (YAY!) and Pac Man

2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Wreck it Ralph Medal on: April 25, 2013 11:36:31 AM
I and my kids have become obsessed with Wreck it Ralph ever since the Easter Bunny left the DVD in my son's basket.

This is a whopping 12 inch hoop (feels huge for me, I usually stick with the 6-8 inchers) and I used decorator weight fabric for the candy striped background.
Felt was used for the hearts and Sweet Candy-like Buttons for the sprinkles.

The words are done with all 6 strands of DMC white...

and I wanted it to really mimic the Medal Vanellope made for Ralph, so I stitched on a piece of Grosgrain Ribbon and tucked it through the hoop for hanging.

Then I got all crazy with the Ric-Rac and a glue gun to finish off. The fabric was a cool extra from a past swap friend...I thought it fit the Sugar Rush theme well.

The inspiration for this hoop was not only to feed our Vanellope Von Schweetz obsession, but to let my daughter know she's MY hero.

She did SO well getting surgery to remove her Adenoids and get Ear Tubes put in!
She is NO DIAPER BABY!!!!

3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / We Are the 3 AMIGOS! on: March 12, 2013 07:35:10 AM
I got the privilege to stitch this up for Averia in the IYP 22 swap!

Based off one of her favorite quotes.
This was the first time I'd stitched on linen and at first I was going to try to cross stitch, but this was a supertight linen.
Those squares were so so small I would have needed to put glasses on top of my own glasses for super-human sight!

I'm very happy with how it turned out!

Oh those Amigos! Now I need to go watch the movie AGAIN!

Thanks for checking it out!
4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Fionna and Cake! on: March 08, 2013 06:35:00 PM
I stitched this depiction of the Ice King's favorite fanfic heroine for QueenofMarigold in the IYP R22 Swap!

Oh, how I love this show and all it's bombastic-ness. I think Fionna and Cake are such a cool/sassy/clever addition.

For stitches used, I was kind of all over the place. My favorite parts are Fionna's hair and Cake's crazy French Knots!

Here's the back finishing:

That Fionna.
Here's some parting words of wisdom from her:
"I don't feel like I'm waiting to be noticed, I know who I am."

Thanks for checking out my stitchery!
5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / The Hobbit: Thror's Map on: July 01, 2012 07:43:41 AM
So I thought I would make my DH a little something for his birthday....

With the movie so close on the horizon I've been a bit obsessed. This is a mix of stitching and gel fine point fabric marker (for most of the wordage). I started out wanting to do a mix of browns thinking that would be continued in the movie as they did in the Lord of the Rings trilogy...but then I realized I only had a black gel fabric marker. I then mixed some greys in too for thread.

Here are some close ups of the stitchery...

After finishing I went to soak the washable blue marker away and then iron the piece as we are want to do...
I ended up with this weird BROWN STAIN smack in the middle of it!!!  Angry

After some anxiety I decided to tea stain my precious....

I LOVE the effect! I had never tea stained before and I can tell you it won't be my last time!

Now after DH's birthday (he was SO thrilled BTW) I have it up in our bedroom where I can see it every time I pass. (I SHALL PASS! Wink)
I framed it in a shadow box with pins a bit haphazardly....beca use what if the map wants to be something else in another life, right?

Thanks for checking out my Hobbit map!
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Knitty Bigger on the Inside Chart Question on: May 16, 2012 08:15:05 AM
Hello everyone and thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

Has anyone else cast on for this?

http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEss12/PATTbigger.php

My issue is on the "Time Vortex Lace Increase Chart".
They have you repeat these 24 rows 7 times

in RED is where my brain skips...

Starting with a RS row, work rows 1 to 24 of the Time Vortex Lace Increase chart 7 times until there are 52 sts, incorporating an additional horizontal repeat after each vertical repeat.

There's probably a simple solution, but I've never come across this before in a pattern.

My brain hurts.

7  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / House Stark PaperCutting on: March 14, 2012 07:56:28 PM
This was my very first papercutting, and I am now addicted!

I made this for MissingWillow in the Craft my Collectible Round 2 Swap. We both have a love for Game of Thrones and I hadn't yet had an opportunity to do any Martin-esque crafts. Wink

I really found this craft was great at helping to quiet my mind. So meditative.
I can't wait to figure out my next project!

Thanks for checking it out!
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Sew Lovely Fingerless Gloves on: March 10, 2012 08:06:28 PM
I made these fingerless mitts for my Fabric Basket Swap partner Wendiek.

I wanted to depict some sewing aspect (as that is her primary craft) and thought of the spool and scissors motifs.
Cute, but not enough.

I ran a "thread" connecting the 2 gloves together!
I need to make a pair of these for myself!

(Bit of a wonky "action" shot. I had to have my 5yr old daughter sit on my lap so she could take the picture "right side up" Grin)

The mitts are knit with Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool and the details are done in duplicate stitch with stash yarn.

Thanks for checking them out!
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Doctor Watson's Cowl on: January 26, 2012 11:34:47 AM
I am in love with Doctor Watson. All reincarnations.
So when watching Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows I found an additional love.
Doctor John Watson's Scarf! Made by his beloved, Mary.
As I don't wear too many scarves these days (kids like to pull on them and I like to breathe!) I made a cowl version.

The brown is Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool
Grey is some unknown yarn from the Thrift Store
Blue is doubled up sock yarn from my stash that had the right color Grin

I used 2 blue buttons to join and a crochet edge for somewhat of a nice finish.

I did a 20 stitch cast on and then a 1X1 rib on up from there. I wanted it to look as it did in the movie around the neck.

Here's an action shot!

Because I'm silly!

Thanks for looking!

10  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / BBC Sherlock on: January 24, 2012 08:40:21 PM
My partner just received in the Sherlock Holmes Swap and I was really excited on how the hoopla I made her turned out

It's such a good show and I love the color tone they use.
I wanted to try a play in texture and really ran with a bunch of different stitches to fill the silhouette. For that I used a dark charcoal grey.
I'd never done a speckled stitch before and the top (sky) seemed like a good place to do it.

To tell the truth, it was a bit hard to part with. Wink
But my partner was totally worth it!
My apologies for the picture quality, it was a bit late when I took them.

Thanks for looking!
