1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / tattooed pillowcases for our anniversary! :D on: February 09, 2011 09:39:49 PM
My fiancee and I celebrated our two-year anniversary on monday, but money is really tight this year, so I put my crafty butt into gear!

She's been asking me to make her pillowcases for awhile now, and she LOVES tattoo-style sparrows, so I whipped up this design in photoshop and stitched these babies up.

Thankfully, she loved them!

A purple one with her name

The sparrows are worked in backstitch, with a bit of satin stitch on the beaks

A blue one with my name
(my lettering looks a bit weird here, but I think the fabric is just wrinkly)

The lettering was done with six strands, I really like how it turned out.
(the font is from dafont.com, by the way)

2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / my big fat lesbian rockabilly wedding on: January 12, 2011 09:37:58 PM
So, my lady and I decided that we're going to get a civil union on 11.11.2011, and have a ceremony & reception in the spring of '12.

I am so freaking excited just thinking about it! I've been planning my wedding since I was a wee little girl!

Does anyone here have any experience in planning same-sex ceremonies? Or nontraditional weddings at all? :}

A few details:
-we are straight-up broke. we are both college students who work in fast food, so we have almost no money to spend on this wedding. She's not crafty at all, so I'm going to have to put a lotttt of DIY-ing into this thing.
-instead of bridesmaids and groomsmen, we're going to have my two brothers and her two sisters
-the theme is red/white/black pinups
-no way am i wearing a white wedding dress! I'm wearing a red polka-dotted dress made by a friend, and my lady is gonna rock a poodle skirt made by me and a white top and saddle shoes.
-her sister's GF and I will be handling the makeup and hair, seeing as we're the girliest. XD
-her family is full of amazing mexican cooks, so we're going to have a taco bar
-my brothers are going to wear hand-embroidered dress shirts, and her sisters are going to wear tutus made by me
-instead of a cake, we've enlisted my talented aunt to bake us chocolate, red velvet, and vanilla cupcakes! Nom nom!
-she's an awesome photographer, so for centerpieces, we're doing flowers with pictures of our loved ones
-her father doesn't like social functions, so she'll be walked down the aisle by our friend Shawn, and instead of trying to pick between my dad and step-dad, I'm just going to have my mom walk me down the aisle. Problems solved!

Any other ideas for things we can make or do to save money?
