1  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / AUSTRALIA / Heat-proof fabric? on: April 18, 2008 12:32:34 AM
Hey there everyone,

I really want to make a case for my new hair-straightener!  My other straightener, a Remington Wet 2 Straight came with a great heat-proof case so that you can put it away nicely, and you don't have to wait until it's fully cooled down to do so.

My new straightener is also a Reminton but alas they weren't generous to supply a nifty little case with this one as well Sad

Does anyone know if you can even buy such heat-proof material somewhere so i can try and make a second case?  I love to know if you do!

Thanks ♥

3  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / AUSTRALIA / Ordering from YesAsia (Japanese craft books) on: September 13, 2007 07:38:08 PM
Ok so I think I've found that ordering from YesAsia looks like the cheapest way to get Japanese craft books to Australia.

Their prices are cheaper in AUS$ than what I was paying for Japanese craft books I ordered through the Japanese store here in Melbourne before it closed down.  And also most items qualify for free shipping, as long as you spend over the minimum requirement which appears to be only US$25!

I've heard other craftsters reccomending the site, but was wondering whether any fellow Aussies have had any experience in getting anything from YesAsia shipped down to this part of the world?

Did everything go ok and would you reccomend them?
4  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / AUSTRALIA / Best deal on stuffing? (for plushies etc.) on: April 28, 2007 06:38:39 PM
Hi!

Does anyone know where to get the best deal on stuffing in Melbourne?  I've just run out of the supply I had from an op shop so this is the first time I'm buying it new.  I've had a look at Spotlight but was wondering if anyone of any stuffing bargains around because I seem to go through it pretty quickly Wink

6  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Meet my pink bunny... on: March 03, 2007 05:12:15 PM

The pattern is from  はじめてでも編める!あみぐるみ (ISBN:4277490395) and he's about 17cm tall.

I was pretty pleased with how he came out because he's only my second go at amigurumi, but he did take me a while Wink  And I must thank those of you who helped me out with this little guy in this thread when I lost count of my stitches half way through his head!!

I hope you like him Smiley
7  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Loosing count of stitches - is there anyway to recover? on: February 17, 2007 05:44:21 PM
(I have searched but couldn't find if this has been asked before or not - please link me up if it has Wink )

I'm just new to crochet, and I'm doing some amigurumi.  I have been keeping track of where I have started the round/row (not sure what they are called exactly) by putting a stitch marker in the first stitch and this has been working very nicely.

However, I what happens if the stitchmarker falls out or you forget to put it in and don't realise until you're stitching away?  Is there anyway to accurately find out again where the start of that round was?

Thanks for any help! Smiley
8  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / A Little Mouse (first crochet project! + links to patterns) on: February 05, 2007 03:24:02 AM
Hello crochet Craftsters!  This is the first time I've really ventured into this part of the forums, but I come bearing pictures of my first attempt at crochet/amigurumi, so I hope you like him!

I started following the mouse pattern in the Japanese amigurumi book あみぐるみの仲間たち, but ended up just using the body from that pattern.  For the ears I followed the ones in the free mouse pattern here.  There is also a translation of that Clover mouse pattern here.

I use my mum's old Elna Lotus for all my sewing, so I was just wondering if anyone else had one?

How do you find it?
