31  more steampunk crows in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by azreno on: November 17, 2010 05:07:22 AM
I really had no idea the crows would be popular but so far they are, here are 2 that I made and sold last week, they came out pretty cool I think. It's the first time I used any larger watch parts and it really worked on the one. Anyone looking for a good mix of watch parts and like a mix of large and small....firemountain gems has it. I ordered their mix and got a lot of larger parts. Not so many small gears though, I had to find those elsewhere.

34  Steampunk Hummingbird in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by azreno on: November 03, 2010 08:24:05 AM
Hi All, this is one busy forum isn't it? I'm a polymer clay artist making mostly pendants....for now anyways, I'll venture out into other things more soon I think. My pieces are entirely unique and original. This steampunk hummingbird pendant was entirely hand sculpted from black polymer clay, embellished with watch gears, and highlighted with mica powders and metallic wax. I think he rocks  Grin

35  Steampunk Hummingbird in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by azreno on: November 03, 2010 08:11:48 AM

I always think the first time I make something, that one is the best, no matter how hard I try to duplicate or make it better, that first one was best. But the hummingbird I did a few weeks was really just fallout from a failed crow, so I pretty much knew I was going to be making a better hummingbird and I think I was right! And besides, anytime I can add purple to something, it's better by default isn't it? So this is the new steampunk hummingbird, I really am so pleased with how it turned out.

36  Re: DIY Photo Lightbox for under $5 in Crafty Business Discussion by azreno on: October 30, 2010 11:47:14 AM
manually setting the white balance on your camera is how you take care of having an 'off' color, you can use any bulb.

astrangeone, your box is under lit, the purpose of cutting the sides open and using a fabric in place is to add light thru there as well. If you don't use that for light then you are better off using the matte side of a piece of posterboard in place of it, as that will reflect more light than you currently are.

Here is a pic of mine, I use 3 lights, all lights I happened to have around, none very powerful but I have light coming in from virtually the entire top as opposed to one single light. And posterboard on the sides for reflecting light, so my box is very well lit.

and the pics I get from it

I don't know why I didn't make bees and butterflies before, they turned out awesome I think!

The bat I'm not so sure about, but he's not bad.

39  A steampunk Crow...and a skull, a wing, etc.... in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by azreno on: October 14, 2010 07:50:30 PM
The crow was a request, not something I think I would have done, but I am so glad I did. It made me push myself out of my comfort zone and I see I need to find more ways of doing that because that's how we improve right? It is so awesome to see such improvement in my work.

the most awesome wing I've made so far!

a skull cabochon, I've had a few folks say I  should make cabochons, so why not! This was actually another request though, but still glad I did it.

Another cabochon

And last but not least, a steampunk hummingbird! Isn't he cute Smiley
