So beautiful! (My 5 year old daughter just walked by and gasped. I guess she likes it too.  Cheesy)
14  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Vintage sheet dress on: June 18, 2014 01:27:12 PM
At ten o'clock at night, a day and a half before my daughter's kindergarten promotion, I decided that she needed a new dress for the event, giving myself just one day to get it done. My first attempt at this dress: http://violettefieldthreads.com/collections/dress-patterns/products/emmaline-dress-sewing-pattern was getting a bit small, so opted to make another one for her. The pattern calls for three ruffles at the bottom, but I opted for just one to reduce the weight of the dress. The previous weekend, I found an awesome lion-print vintage sheet for $2 at the thrift store and I knew this was just right material to use:

I actually was able to finish the dress in about 6 hours, and I only sewed the bodice to itself twice!  Cheesy
15  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Rainbow skirt on: June 18, 2014 01:17:41 PM
Los Angeles Pride was coming up, so I decided my daughter needed a (duh) rainbow skirt to wear. I picked out the ROYGBIV colors from the quarters' section at the fabric store, cut them into two inch strips and then sewed them all together. Initially, I was going to make it with an elastic waist, but then I decided to make it slightly harder on myself (something I'm apparently really good at) and do a buttoned waistband instead. Of course, my machine is a complete a-hole when it comes to doing buttonholes through more than two layers of fabric, so the top buttonhole was done (not very well) by hand. I also lined the skirt with a vintage sheet to make sure it wasn't see-through.

And an action shot from the day's festivities:

This is super cute. And I love that it just pulls over, no zippers to be bothered with!

Thank you so much for the lovely compliments, and thank you for the feature on mrxstitch.com. How cool is that?

I stitched up (used 3 strands of regular old black on a thrifted pillowcase) this baby for a friend's birthday. It was a big hit.  Cheesy
