11  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Sunday Dress on: January 29, 2012 05:05:58 PM
I made a dress for my daughter each day this weekend - sewing bliss!    We're going on holidays soon, so I wanted to give her a couple of nice summer dresses to wear while we're there...

This is the dress I made on Sunday - it's the Oliver + S Tea Party Sundress, and it's now availble as a printable pattern - - I think it was just $9 to download on the oliver + s website, and I was assembling my pattern in mere minutes.  Love instant gratification!

The pattern only goes to a size 5, but my daughter is a size 6, so I modified the pattern pieces and I did it *almost* perfectly, but I didn't think to lengthen the skirt pieces, so it ended up being a little on the short side.  So then at the last minute I added the bottom pink piece to try to add a bit of length - I ended up adding about 3/4" that way - a little more length, anyway!  Grin

I cut all the pattern pieces out last night (Saturday) and it probably took me about 2 hours to get all my changes worked out and then cut out.  Then today, I probably spent about 4 hours sewing it all together - or so; I was interrupted by my kids more often than not...  There are 6 panels in the skirt and a liner on the bodice.  I did french seams throughout to keep it clean inside, and then there's all that top-stitching.  It's truly beautiful in all its detail.

I love how the pink and the yellow play off each other to make this a very bright, summery dress - It really looks so much better in real life, but I just couldn't get my camera to cooperate tonight.  Tongue

Thanks for looking!

I made a dress for my daughter each day this weekend - sewing bliss!  Grin  We're going on holidays soon, so I wanted to give her a couple of nice summer dresses to wear while we're there...

This is the dress I made on Saturday - it's the Oliver + S Popover Sundress, and it's a free download on oliver + s website.

I wanted to make this dress a little big, because I know she'll hit a growth spurt before summer, so I wanted to make sure it would still fit!!  In actuality, it'll probably fit her until she's 12 - it's quite a bit bigger than I thought it would be!!

It's a great pattern, and one I will definitely be using again - but next time I think I'll size it down a bit...  Wink

I claim miknessevie for some lovely marino wool felt that she will flip over!!  Smiley

2nd claim / 1 sent / 0 received

My name is Karrie and I'm in Canada.  I am a work-at-home mom of 2.  My daughter is 6 and my son just turned 4.  Hubby & I have been together for 14 years already - time just flies by...  My work is wedding stationery, so I get to craft all day long (well, not really - I also have to do the books, take care of the kids and clean the house, but you get the idea)...

I love fun, bright colors that make you feel like summer - maybe 'cuz I wish our winters were shorter!  Turquoise, Pink, Blue, Orange, Green.  And I also love contrasting those bright colors with neutrals like Natural Linen (my favorite look of all), or even dark brown, charcoal gray or black.  I often lean towards simpler or "cleaner" designs.   My favorite fabrics tend to be "Mod", and again - when combined with linen I just flip for them!!

I am a big reader, and love the Fever series, True Blood, and will always love Twilight and Harry Potter.  I pretty much read anything that's recommended to me.  And as far as crafting goes, paper crafting is my main activity, but I also love to knit, sew and cross-stitch.

I am a chatty one, so please feel free to PM me if you have any questions about your claim (or potential claim).  I usually respond the same day...

Crafted Items
- We're going to Mexico next month, so I'd love a sewn sunglass case, or a crocheted bathing suit bag (to hold the wet suits but let them air out more quickly) - or heck, even a crocheted tank top would be awesome!
- Crocheted Bowls like this
- Patchwork Coasters like this selected - thanks frosty772!
- Patchwork Crayon Rolls like this
- Fun Patchwork Belts like this
- Folding Oven Mitts like this
- Re-usable Lunch Bags like this
- e-Reader cover similar to this, but with brighter fabrics (pm me for measurements)
- Stenciled shirts, ladies fitted size L -- looking for a "Bazinga" shirt, or anything that Sheldon wears on Big Bang Theory
- Embellished shirts, ladies fitted size L -- looking for embroidered flowers, or beaded.  Something pretty.
- Tree of Life Pendant with silver wire and pink leaves for spring
- Beaded zipper pulls that I can use on my crafted projects - mostly for zip pouches and bags, but I might use some on my daughter's dresses and skirts, too!
- Fun hair accessories for my daughter - felted clips with flowers, or headbands would be very cool.  She's got fine hair, so the clips need to be tight.
- Sewn DS case for my daughter with girlie-pink fabrics
- Sewn DS case for my son with big boy fabrics
- Some pretty stitch markers for knitting or crochet - I love the glass beads that look like sheep, or any kind of beads, similar to these, or I'd even love little polymer clay pieces that look like cupcakes, similar to these
- Fingerless gloves would be great - my hands are always cold when I'm at the computer or when I'm reading.  Anything goes here - fun striping or funky texture would be a win.

Craft Supplies
- I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a "how to" kit for Tree of Life Pendants!!
- Books:  Toe-Up 2-at-a-Time Socks, Oliver + S Little Things to Sew, One-Yard Wonders
- Fabrics:  Anything like this
- heavyweight fusible interfacing, or any interfacing for that matter - I always need more!
- some fun japanese fabric fat quarters - any assortment would be very cool
- a "How To" kit for polymer clay - I'd love to learn!
- kettle died or kool-aid died yarn would be fun - sport weight
- or a "how to" kit for kettle dying, since I've never done that before either
- a "how to" kit for making bubble bath dough with all-natural ingredients would be fun for me and the kids!

Thanks so much for claiming me!!

Geez, I have been MIA for awhile now - crazy busy with the holidays!!

I'm so glad you like everything!  The linen and patchwork is my favorite look.  And although I LOVE the scrappy look, I just couldn't do it myself - at least not with these fabrics, so I had to stick with the strip piecing...  But I love how the wallet turned out (my first time trying that tutorial), so I'm really glad you like it.

It was great finally swapping with you, Sharalee, I had a lot of fun with this!

And thanks, everyone, for the kind words about my work.  I'm flattered!!!  Grin Grin Grin

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season, and I wish everyone a Happy New Year!!

I have some serious catching up to do - I've not seen most of the posts in this gallery yet!!  Been away from my computer too much the last few weeks!!

I have received from Sharalee and I've been seriously spoiled (and my kids too!!)

First, she made this lovely bag.  Lots of detail went into each panel - truly made with love!

Next, a card wallet - perfect to put all my debit/credit/store cards into on the go.  Smiley  She even made the lovely charm!

Then a wristlet that fits perfectly - LOVE the colors and love the button.  It's fun!

And she wanted to send something for the kids, too, so she sent my son this plushie robot - my son has been asking for a robot for weeks now, and when he opened it, he said "THIS ROBOT IS TOTALLY AWESOME!!"  Later when he was trying to name the robot, he said "The only name I can think of is AWESOME ROBOT", and that's been his name ever since.  He also wanted to know if it was his "Share Day" (show & tell) because he wanted to show his whole class at pre-K.  Today is FINALLY the day he gets to take it to school to show everyone and he can't wait!

My daughter received this plushie bunny and she has been hugging & cuddling her every night on the couch and even takes her to bed, too.  The bunny had a flower pin on it, but my daughter's wearing that to school today.

And last but not least, some fabric.  The nude fabric is poppet skin!!  I've been wanting to make a poppet for ages, but I can't seem to find the skin (I've forgotten what it's called right now) locally, so Sharalee's generous gift will let me try my hand at poppet making - finally!  YAHOO!!

I might use the other fabric for a skirt or even a dress for my daughter, and then make a matching skirt or dress for her future poppet.  But first I have to learn HOW to make a poppet - so I'll be lurking on those threads throughout the holidays now!!

Anyway, thanks very much, Sharalee for the spoilage!!  I hope you like your parcel as much as we've enjoyed ours!!  Grin

Oops - there were also some poppet eyes, but I forgot to include those in the picture.
19  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Journal Cover Swap--GALLERY!--Send Out Nov. 7 on: December 14, 2011 08:56:06 AM
I am so sorry to be posting so late.  Too much illness around here and it just got away from me.

I received from MelMakesPretty quite awhile ago now, and everything was just fabulous!!  First, the journal cover:

She decorated it for my wedding stationery business - so I can use it for taking notes when I'm doing my bridal consultations.

Next, she made a coordinating chequebook - so I have somewhere to put the cash/cheques that the brides give me when booking.

And then some awesome extras - first, these adorable owls from my pinterest - I just LOVE them and I'm going to hang them in the kids' playroom...

And finally some fabric that is just to die for - I really want to see if I can get my hands on some more of this stuff 'cuz I just LOVE it!!!

THANKS SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING!!!
20  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Scrap Happy Swap; send out by 11/30/11 on: December 03, 2011 01:30:06 PM
I'll be sending tomorrow!!! I got it just done & the post office is closed now.  Cheesy  So I'll post it in the morning. I work on it all day. So I hope whats_her_name likes it. Don't worry whats_her_name just do what you can & get better. Ok I'm tired, think I'll go to bed soon!! Goodnight everyone!!

I'm so excited to see what you've come up with!!  Smiley

I got slammed at the end of the week with too many people having too many demands of me and my time.  I revolted last night by having a hot shower around 8, and getting into bed around 8:30 - it was AWESOME!!  I need to do that more often.

Anyway, my DH is going out of town for work on Monday, so I'm going to have 3 evenings all to myself to craft away, so I know I'll be done very soon!!  In fact, I don't think I need anything more than just Monday to get finished.  I believe I'll be sending out on Tuesday - and I'll PM the orgs and my partner once I finally get the parcel sent out.

Until then, I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend!

oh, ps - My son is sick again (seriously - I think I should pull him out of pre-K for real!!) so we kept him home from his Saturday activities, and he and my DH got the Christmas tree out and we've just finished decorating.  Feels more like xmas now...
