2251  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Dylan swap on: September 18, 2010 09:41:31 PM
I definitely think a One Tiny Bob Dylan Thing swap would work. I think maybe last time people may have hesitated because I tried to do regular swap requirements (one small, medium, and large), and maybe they just thought, "I'm interested, but I have no idea what I would make to fill the requirements!" Plus then if the OTBDT swap works great, maybe it would garner enough interest for a full BD swap. I'm game to start sign-ups mid/late October if that would work for everyone.

That would be perfect! I'll be waiting to sign up! I agree that if it was one small, medium and large, I probably would be too intimidated to sign up. But I think that one tiny thing would be so fun!

Maybe like a late October or November sign up? Give some time to generate some more interest? I think this would totally be awesome!

Being lovin Bob Dylan lately...would love to do something like this (maybe in a month or two though, still working on my first swap plus the Sketchbook project). Definately 'notify'ing this though to keep an eye on it!!!

Gesso is a primer that provides tooth and strength. It is semi-thick and opaque so you can use it to cover text in altered books and make the pages stronger/more accepting of wet media.

Ok cool, thanks! (Why couldnt they make it that simple on wikipedia? haha)

Love the pictures! My first (and current) art journal is an altered book. I find that since the pages already have text, it is less intimidating for me instead of a blank page!

I totally agree, the "built in" layer helps add depth too. My only problem is I like to put everything into my single journal and when I want to sketch out an idea I have to gesso first- it throws the creative flow off.

I used to gesso too .. now I have some pre-gessoed pages, but I also keep a stack of cast off paper near and just glue it down.  I use the stuff that my printer doesn't print correctly, or envelopes, or the backs of the notes my kids get from school (why do they waste so much paper in the schools?) or whatever.  That way you never have to put a crimp in the creative flow again!

I dont quite understand gesso and what it does/is used for. I've googled it a couple of times and searched on here but cant find a clear definition... Huh

I tested a new idea on one of my A-Js last night and love the way it turned out.  I just know StickerChic87 is gonna think it is one of the coolest parts of her new A-J.  I am so excited ... gonna have a artsy/craftsy day today, at least until the kids are off school.  Goal is to have all the pages close to finished up and drying.

I've been saving small boxes lately and have been addicted to making them 'pretty.' This time a BandAid box got the makeover!

Glued the guts into the cover! Waiting a day or two and then I'm gonna make sure everything is safe and securely glued!
