1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: I now work at JoAnn's. on: August 05, 2005 09:25:31 AM
As for work environment, I am forced to pretend I'm happy all the time. I have to smile and be so fake.
I know that sucks. I work in an ice cream store, and it gets rough dealing with people all day. You always get someone who's rude to you, but you can't do anything about it, you still have to be courteous. But then there are the people who are more than friendly to you, and they make the job fun. That and the free ice cream with every shift. Grin

If you aren't a "people person" (i.e. one of those that just likes everyone and has that crazy "happy switch") than a customer service position is simply not for you. While I know how you guys feel (I do wedding announcements for a newspaper, so have to be SUPER DUPER HAPPY to customers), I think that it would be more than a little rude to be bitchy to the bridezillas on the phone just because I am having a bad day. Of course, since it is on the phone, I don't have to smile or anything and can roll my eyes if someone goes off the deep end. Smiley

And as far as dressing goes, there is just one rule as far as I am concerned "Dress for the job that you want, not the job you have." That way you can be a "trendy artist" rather than a "trendy lawyer" (and both are trendy in their own ways). Although, to be fair, I knew a woman lawyer that dressed like a janitor and had a mustache.
2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: delirium costume on: May 25, 2005 12:05:43 PM

that is a picture of the delirium action figure. I have seen a green coat used instead of the green tanktop over the fishnet bra thing. I did an image search on google for delirium gaiman. Maybe other word combos will come up with different pics.

BTW, delirium is AWESOME. Smiley That is so creative.

Now that Bonnie Burton at grrl.com works at Lucas Arts, she decided to put some stuff on starwars including a Darth Vader. Check it out!

6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: 1 Year Wedding Anniversary! on: March 23, 2005 09:08:23 AM
My one year anniversary is May 1. I am making him a Trogdor shirt inspired by I Eat Art's embroidery (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=28190.msg238893#msg238893).

An easy shirt to do is I love you in binary code.  I might try doing that too.
preg_replace('/(.{49})/', '$1 ', '01101001001000000110110001101111011101100110010100100000011110010110111101110101')

Although that is really tech geeky.

So you sprayed the design on the inside of the tshirt, right? Because in the first pic the blue is really dark and then when you are wearing it, its lighter. It gives it a "faded on purpose" look. Cool!
8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Curse *&^% Cancer on: March 17, 2005 02:47:59 PM
Maureen F. McHugh, Hugo award winner, wrote in her blog http://maureenmcq.blogspot.com/, about a Fuck Cancer hat. I looked for one online and only found a baseball cap. I was thinking that maybe a knitted version might be better? Does anyone have any ideas?

She also describes a handmade jacket with healing symbols on it that sounds really nice.

I wouldn't have known the faces weren't from a stencil and then color added. I can't draw circles for anything.... I love the shirt!
