276  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Re: First garment: Suggested patterns from SnB? on: February 24, 2005 08:23:52 AM
I did the SnB nation "Jesse's Flames" sweater in green Paton's Classic Wool for my first ever sweater this fall, and it turned out great.  I kept the ribbing pattern but skipped the intarsia and just did it solid color.  It's a really classic pullover, and my bf loves it.  As for my experience this is the first ever sweater I have ever ever finished in all my years of knitting.  No tears!  Highly recommended...
277  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Discussion and Questions / Re: Projects for Zaftig Gals! on: February 22, 2005 02:23:34 PM
I love this word, and I think the dictionary definition clears up just whose standard of "fat" zaftig is!

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=zaftig

I have an average chest but VERY curvy hips and shopping for pants makes me sad.  I have enough confidence in myself to feel sexy except when I'm trying on lousy blue jeans--why the hell do the manufacturers think your waist must be the same size as your hips?  that's boy proportions!

okay, deep breath.  stop ranting, girl. Roll Eyes

okay.

I'm just sad that I always end up with clown pants that gape at the waist 'cuz i'm an hourglassy kinda girl in a kate moss world.

I'm so excited to see this thread, i hope we can all share some zaftig ideas for looking our fabulous best in hand-crafted splendor... I'm working on the infamous glampyre boobholder, I'll let you know how that works out...
278  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / ergonomic bag with snug ibook pocket on: February 19, 2005 04:15:18 PM
greetings, this is my first new thread and i'm a little excited... Roll Eyes

I want to make myself a cool and sturdy bag that has a snug pocket for my 12" iBook.   I'm a humanities grad student, so I have to lug the laptop and tonnes of books/papers back and forth to my urban campus on foot every day.  A bag that's comfortable to wear would of course be a plus.

I knit, crochet, sew, etc, so I'm open to all sorts of modes of construction... it just has to look cool!  Anyone of you crafty folks have inspirations or even finished projects to share?

thanks so much.  Smiley

Yay, I'll be able to participate soon!  (little newbie I am) and I can't wait, I hope I qualify in time for the beginning of this one because I want to sign up.  I'd love to make purses to swap while procrastinating on my reading...
