1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Thread gathering at beginning of stitch? on: July 07, 2011 05:17:24 PM
Whenever I begin a stitch on my sewing machine, the first cm or so has a clusterf*ck of thread gathered at the beginning, but the rest is fine. What do I need to do/adjust? Thankies!
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Fun With Feathers! (Pic-o-rama) on: April 29, 2011 06:43:55 PM

4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Deoxyribonucleic Acid Necklace! on: March 13, 2011 04:15:42 PM
I was trying to think of the perfect thing to make for my favorite biology professor who is retiring at the end of this term, and I was inspired by mermaide's tutorial! http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=161423.0

Here's my finished project:

Comments and such are welcome!
5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Feather Hair Extension Supplies on: February 16, 2011 12:33:35 PM
I'm sure you've all noticed the new awesome trend of feather hair extensions. I'd really like to dye and design my own for my hair, but I can't find anywhere online that just sells the long, thin, rooster saddle/hackle feathers. Anyone know a supplier where I can get them?
6  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Random Acrylic Painting on: February 14, 2011 09:32:27 AM
I went through a phase for a while where all I painted was these trees, here's the only surviving one Tongue

7  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Fallout LARP Costumes (VERY Pic Heavy) on: February 10, 2011 07:09:16 PM
My bf and I are on an airsoft team (basically shooting people with plastic bb's, very similar to paintball except with more realistic weapons and scenarios), and our team hosts LARP-heavy games. We did a LARPsoft, if you will, based on the Fallout Universe (from the post-apocalyptic video games). I made our raider costumes, mostly out of upcycled clothing and materials. Here's what we had Smiley

My mask, made primarily of burlap:

Vest, found at Goodwill but torn to shreds, re-sewn, buttons changed, edges shredded, and a few shotgun shells blown through it (yes, really...)

One of my cuff/gauntlet thingies, made of faux leather, studs, and lots of hot glue

My boyfriend's shoulder armor, made of bike tires, screws, spikes, faux leather, and yes... lots of hot glue

Finished product all together

Action shot, minus the mask (I died trying to negotiate with bounty hunters... never a good idea)

I hope you like!
8  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Ultra-Glide Foot? on: February 06, 2011 08:34:43 AM
I've been sewing with a synthetic leather and it seems to be sticking to the foot on my sewing machine. Does anyone have one of those fancy teflon ultra-glide feet? Do they work?
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Infinity Dress (n00b questions) on: January 07, 2011 11:13:33 AM
Having just begun experimenting with my new sewing machine, I've decided to try and make my first piece of clothing (aaaah! so excite!). I'm sure you've all seen the infinity dress http://rowena.typepad.com/rostitchery/infinity-dress.html, I thought it would be a good beginning project (tell me if I'm wrong). I just had a couple of questions for you experienced sewers out there:

1) What would be the best fabric for this kind of project? I've been looking at a lot of different ones and I'm not sure what would be stretchy enough, too stretchy, etc.
2) Should I hem the strappy pieces before or after putting it all together? I know, lame question, but I don't know if it makes a huge difference?

Thank you for your patience! X)
