Beautiful job. I'm a big fan of doilies...working on another one myself right now. Smiley
32  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Re: color bar blanket on: April 15, 2006 03:06:55 PM
your blanket is awesome! I've been thinking about doing this blanket myself. Smiley

Both me and my mother love this blanket! Wish i could knit, or crochet.

You could probably learn how to crochet if you got the Happy Hooker book. There are EXCELLENT instructions in there!

absolutely gorgeous! I had considered joining your knitalong awhile back, but wasn't in a blanket mood. Smiley I love this pattern though.

That's really pretty! I have a Hobby Lobby near me, but haven't tried the Yarn Bee brand yet, but now maybe I will!  Cheesy

Thanks for the suggestions, girls, I think I'll be able to find something! Smiley

Emms, you mentioned the "drape" of the garment - I'm glad you did, because that's primarily the thing I was most worried about when substituting the yarn. How did you know that a silk/rayon blend could be sub'd for a cotton/acrylic/visoce blend? Could you recommend a website or book that discusses this topic? Thanks again!

Well I've never knitted a sweater before, so I have a couple of questions.

1. Would this be a good first sweater?
I'm a bit intimidated at the thought of knitting a sweater, but in some ways, I figure I might as well just TRY it instead of whining about it - right? Wink

2. What yarn could I substitute?
I would probably end up making the Large size, which is 13 skeins of the suggested yarn (Artful Yarns Olympic, a cotton/viscose/acrylic blend) - that adds up to about $103, which I'm not willing to pay. However, since I've never knitted an actual garment before, I don't know exactly how to substitute the yarn. I know that it knits up at 4.75 sts/1 in, so it should be a worsted weight yarn. But unless I can find another yarn with those exact fibers in it, how would I know what other types of yarn would work?  Plain cotton?  Acrylic?

Thanks so much for any input! I really appreciate it.

Here's mine! I've been really horrible about posting this. I finished it about a week ago.  Embarrassed

I used Rowan Cashsoft DK in "Mirage". This is the first hat I've ever made, and the first time I used beads. It took me a couple of tries, but once I got the hang out it, it was a pretty fast knit. I plan on making a few more of these for gifts.
