1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Shell Basket on: September 27, 2010 10:03:51 PM
So I've done a few projects lately, and I'm finally getting around to posting. I did this one a little while ago. My folks brought back a huge pile of shells from their vacation to the west coast. I got a bunch of them and put this together.

I bought a fabric placemat at the local dollar store with a funky beachy pattern and some blue beads/shinys. The placemat went in the bottom of the basket, with the extra bits decorating the outside (sewn on around the wicker). The beads were originally on stems, like for a bouquet, but looked better loose among the shells. And that's about it, pretty simple.
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Cute and Simple Baby Basket (lotsa pics) on: September 27, 2010 09:50:16 PM
My sister is due to have her baby around the middle of October and I'd been wondering what to get as a gift (first-time aunt here). I'd seen lots of pre-made baby baskets but they seemed too big and ostentatious (and PINK or BLUE with no middle ground) and I wasn't feeling it. At the same time I wanted something with useful stuff, that wouldn't break the bank, and wasn't too over the top jam-packed with random crap.  Anyways, we were out shopping and I saw this little bear, and one thing led to another and this is what we ended up with.

I had the piece of ribbon, which I tied around the basket. Then layered the sleeper, bib and hat. The socks tucked in the side and the pack of facecloths are propped up behind the bear.

And there you have it. Cute, simple, useful, custom color-coordination, and inexpensive. Because if I remember one thing from my son's baby shower, it's that practical baby gifts are awesome, especially for a newborn.

*Edit* Added the pacifier this morning for a little something extra.

3  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Completed Projects / Recon Infinity Dress! on: August 06, 2010 10:48:17 PM
Hello Craftster! First post here!
Well I really enjoy various crafty-type stuff, and I have lurked here for a little while. Usually I don't do much sewing stuff (other than a couple Halloween costumes) because I don't have a machine at the moment and my hand-sewing is fairly atrocious.
However, I had to give the Infinity dress a try. It looked too awesome and super easy to make (thanks to rostitchery, of course). I made mine a shirt, though, cause I wanted it to wear to a wedding, but still wear pants so I can run around after my toddler more easily. Did I mention the purple is reconned from a large bag of a shirt I couldn't really wear anywhere?  I really want to make another one, in black and white polka dots, with a big circle skirt. That would be awesome.
Well, it turned out pretty good and you can wrap it to hide any boo boos that I made along the way. I tried a couple ways, but only took pics of the one I want to do for the wedding. It's not perfectly wrapped, but I will do it better then lol. Also, don't mind the wrong color bra, and the messy bathroom (little mister was in it and stuff got moved up onto the vanity  Cheesy).
Thanks all for looking!
