31  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Colour Change- am I doing it right? on: February 22, 2012 03:47:44 PM
Oh cool, thanks- so I guess those imperfections are just of the colour change then.  Glad I'm not doing it wrong haha Smiley
32  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Colour Change- am I doing it right? on: February 22, 2012 10:40:01 AM
Hey this is my first time using colour change- I did not use a pattern, I made my own up, but I used this tutorial:

It doesn't look super neat, but is that just the nature of changing colours like this?  Does anyone have any feedback or tips?

Thanks a bunch!
33  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Discussion and Questions / Re: Where oh where to buy yarn online? on: February 18, 2012 03:23:02 PM
Thank you so much for your help!  That is so incredibly nice of you to even ring them for me!!

I am checking out both herrschners and redheart.  Want to hear a funny joke?  I put 5 balls of yarn in my cart at herrschners.com which came to a total of 41.95.  The shipping to New Zealand they want to charge me?  Only $70.72!! Whaaaaaaaat???
I will have to email RedHeart and ask if they can ship to NZ, cos I can't be paying almost double my order in shipping..

I'll see how I go.  I might even contact herrschners and see if that shipping is right... it just seems insane.

Hi, I posted about this in the New Zealand board, but that seems to get little to no traffic.  So I'm posting it here in the hopes of getting some help!

I've learned amigurumi from tutorials on the net, and I used a little kit (included yarn, hook, pattern, eyes etc).  It turned out pretty cute, so I wanted to make more.  All the stuff I looked at online basically said to use 10ply cheapo (acrylic) yarn, since it's not as fluffy and also it doesn't stretch out, so you can't see the stuffing.

I've looked in places, and called places too, but 10ply yarn seems to be the red-headed stepchild of NZ yarn?  I can't seem to find much, and if I do it's fancy wool.  All I want is a selection of brightly coloured, cheap 10 ply yarn.

So if I can't find any in NZ, does anyone know any good sites to order from, that ship internationally?

Thanks heaps and heaps in advance guys!

35  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / NEW ZEALAND / Where can I get 10ply yarn for amigurumi? on: February 17, 2012 09:49:35 PM
Hi,
I've learned amigurumi from the net, and I used a little kit (included yarn, hook, pattern, eyes etc) I bought from spotlight.  It turned out pretty cute, so I wanted to make more.  All the stuff I looked at online basically said to use 10ply cheapo (acrylic) yarn, since it's not as fluffy and also it doesn't stretch out, so you can't see the stuffing.

And if I really can't find any in NZ, does anyone know any good sites to order from?

Thanks heaps and heaps in advance guys!

Hi jexxican- I used this:http://www.planetjune.com/blog/how-to-make-a-seamless-join-in-amigurumi/
for the join from head to body, and sorta just winged it for the other ones, haha.

Yay, I finished it!  It was fun!  I bought a kit to learn.  Of course it didn't teach me how to, so to the internet it was!  I have to say, I took hours and hours of practice to get myself going, but I did it!  Nothing like the satisfaction of teaching yourself a new skill eh?  Now I want to get into trying some more complex designs Smiley

I changed the nose and added the little toes.

I love bunny tails Smiley

If you're interested, you can see a few more shots and what the kit looks like on my blog http://makingitwell.blogspot.co.nz/2012/02/my-first-amigurumi.html

And guys, if you want the pattern, I found out Ana Paula Rimoli actually sells the PDF version online here!  http://www.etsy.com/listing/89006848/little-bunny-and-his-mommy-pdf-amigurumi

Now to scour the internet for cute free patterns to try out- any suggestions? Smiley

Ahaha, the fuzzy picture plus the pose of mewtwo looks like he's being stalked by paparazzi "no pics please"!
Well done- I'm hoping to get into more complex designs like this one!

Cool, I'm sure a white sash will look great Smiley

And your bust isn't the "wrong shape", haha.  Just remember everyone is different, or fitting could be demoralising!   Wink  I'm trying to fit a top right now and I've had to make sloping shoulders, small bust, short waist and sway back alterations so far... Yep, fitting is quite the subject to get into.

Good luck with your future garments!
